Vegas 10.0 gave up network rendering?
Posted by John Lenihan on October 14, 2010 at 3:31 amSo recently I told you I was thrilled to be able to use network rendering.
I am running the vegas 10 through its paces and see that it does not have the option for Rendering through network computers.
And the chapter in the help files has deleted reference to it.
Please tell me I am wrong.

October 14, 2010 at 4:14 amWOW, I hope not!! I thought the GPU lie was bad! Ditching network, will the let downs never cease?
I’ll look into this first thing tomorrow!

October 14, 2010 at 6:08 amThat GPU is used for acceleration. 3-5% gpu usage equals about : .6% increase in speed…
Not worth the ink on the monitor to state that it has acceleration!

October 15, 2010 at 3:00 pmI think not. Before I purchased the upgrade, I had to agree to the licence agreement. I vaguely recall words suggesting it could not be installed on more than 1 computer, or words to that effect.
I haven’t installed it yet to check it (I just wanted to take advantage of the $139 price) and probably will not do so until the end of the year when I have my jobs out of the way and can afford downtime to address bugs.
There is no reference to network rendering in the manual as you have determined. Interesting… .

October 21, 2010 at 4:54 pmWell, I had been using a trial of Vegas 9 and was very happy with it. I was also very happy with the network render and had set up a Raid 0 array on another computer to share on the network.
I ordered my copy of Vegas Pro and it was delayed because version 10 had just come out. I thought that was great. I played with 10 a little today and was very impressed with the image stabilization.
Then I went to set up network rendering and it is no where to be found. A search of the help file reveals that any mention of it is gone as well. Why the heck would you do that??????????????????????
What possible benefit could Sony have from removing that feature? I hope they don’t sell it as a seperate product now.

October 21, 2010 at 5:03 pmI have a suggestion,
How about if all of us on this thread submit an incident to Sony asking about network rendering on 10 and what is their intended replacement. Maybe when they see a volume of comments it will get on their list.

January 18, 2011 at 6:44 amYes, according to Sony Creative Software tech support, Vegas Pro 10 does not allow network rendering. IMHO, this was an expensive addition to the software, and they probably got more calls than they wanted. Also, the average editor isn’t exactly the nerdy network guru, too (me included).
I’m giving up on 10 for now, since I want network rendering speed. I live in a 64bit world, but i need a little more horsepower.

March 25, 2011 at 3:09 pmWell, at least you got a reply. I just got the silent treatment from them.
It’s very unfortunate they decided to drop it since the functionality was already there. At least they could offer it as a downloadable or custom install option for those of us that are able to use it.

March 28, 2011 at 5:52 pmInteresting, I just found the joys of SS Drives. I have really upped my game and found that SSDs can make up for a multitude of high rez video files to cook. Maybe i’ll give that Vegas 10 a chance. I think one 2000 dollar machine should take care of most of my rendering problems.
