Thank you both for your input. I never really notice it either, but I use Sony Vegas to compose music so I like to have total control.

You could trick Vegas by closing the project, altering the file name of the original clip, then changing the file name of the new clip to what the old clip was originally called. Then when you reopen Vegas, it will automatically use that new file in place of the old one. However, this will affect all events on the timeline that use that piece of media.

Yup, it is good to use instead of the Adjust Size and Quality feature if you don’t want to view a lower resolution preview. The downside is you have to stop what you’re doing and manually change it.

Does anyone know the release date for Vegas Pro 12?

Another trick I find that works is to change your video preview quality and then change it right back. So, if you are using Preview/Auto, drop it down to Draft and then right back up to where you had it before. Suddenly the preview will play at full frame again (for a while).

Thanks for the info, John. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I was surprised that .mpg2 wasn’t working for him either. At this point, we are thinking the file is corrupt about 1hr in.

    Thanks again.

Hopefully someone will respond with a script that will do this all in one shot.

In the meantime, have you considered doing this by making snapshots and adding the .jpgs to your timeline?

The disk icon above the preview window will save a .jpg of the frame your cursor is on.

You can go to Options/Preferences/Editing and change ‘New Still Image Length’ to 1 second.

Then, every time you drop that newly created .jpg into the timeline, it will default to a length of one second.

I do have a script that will allow you to map “Save Snapshot To File” to a keyboard command if you would find that helpful, instead of using the mouse.

I am using Vegas 9 and my render templates seem to have no affect on those check boxes, which are in the main ‘Render As’ dialog box and not within the custom template settings.

Thank you for your input, Steve. I can see now why you said just ignore it. It was my impression that unchecking this would prevent Vegas from creating those .sfl files which any of the 800 people at this company often mistake for video files, causing confusion that could lead in things not making it to air.

Now I see that those files are created whether the function is checked or unchecked, and it is actually the render format that determines whether or not the .sfl is generated.

Now only if we could get Vegas to default to “Render using networked computers” and save my team 900 clicks a week.

Wow, that’s a great tip. Thank you Vladimir. I would love to be able to have “Render Using Network Computers” checked by default and “Save project markers in media file” unchecked by default. Unfortunately, I can’t find those options in the Internal tab.

I know these issues sound trivial to most people, but I am working in a unique environment where multiple users are churning out hundreds of clips per day and minimizing clicks, potential for errors, and those annoying project marker files that confuse our network would be fantastic.

It is odd that “Render loop region only” will revert to whatever setting you had it on last, but “Render using networked computers will not”.

Separately, any idea what Enable Crash Test Dummy does in the Input tab?
