Thanks. What about laptops? Apple makes MacBooks plenty powerful enough for FCP 7, right?

Nice! I tried the compositing method. Looks good as well. I am really impressed with all the things you can do with compositing in Vegas.

Cool. Thanks for your input. I did something with the Sony Rays effect that has that aspect of manipulating the light levels inherent in the frame. It would be perfect if you could get the rays to just be 2D and vertical, but you can’t.

It’s more than a flash. The bright parts of the frame turn white the fastest, followed by the darker. So it’s as if the natural light sources are being amplified until everything reaches white. Then the reverse happens on the shot coming in. It’s almost as if the light gets sucked back into its source.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at that.

Yes, my home computer is more powerful than the HP 7800. Shouldn’t a Z800 still be powerful enough to play a single, unaltered video track, though?

I love Vegas’ approach to editing, the way it makes most tasks so simple. And I love scripting and all the 3rd party apps. But, let’s face it, the video preview sucks. It’s certainly not Vegas’ strong suit compared to a lot of other systems.

The original files were H.264 .mov files. I tried converting them to .mpg2 and Vegas had a fit. I tried doing one as DNxHD and had better results.

I’m home now on my Sony Vaio with 12 gigs of ram and the original h.264 files are working fine.

I have heard of Vegasaur. I never really looked into low res proxy applications for Vegas, perhaps I’ll look into that for larger projects.

Those tricks are how I have been getting by for the last 7 years. These are HP 7800s. The same machine my coworkers are running Avid on down the hall. Powerful machines.

These machines have good days and bad, but it’s pathetic that I have to expend so much energy and time just getting my video to play. I was hoping the regulars on here had some secret formula I just didn’t know about and I’ve been doing it wrong all this time.

That is what I was heading towards. If I use the same .mpg2 template for both renders, will the No Compression Render work as normal?
