Still Possible to Buy a Mac for FCP7?
Hi Folks,
I have some freelance opportunities and the company would need me to use Final Cut Pro 7. I currently don’t have a Mac. I think I heard somewhere that FCP 7 isn’t compatible with the latest Mac OS. What is the most recent OS I could use for FCP 7? Is it possible to buy this and a machine new from Apple? Or would I need to find an older, used one?

Actually, FCP7 is as of this moment, still working okay even on the new Mavericks OS, according to people who have tried it.
You should be able to get a great deal on a recent refurbed Mac pro or iMac, but Apple isn’t selling FCP7 or Final Cut Studio 3, the name for the whole bundle, anymore; you’d have to buy a used copy from someone off ebay or another source.

Thanks. What about laptops? Apple makes MacBooks plenty powerful enough for FCP 7, right?

I suppose. You’d want an external RAID to put the scratch files on.

To get an update on this, is anyone smoothly running FCP7 installed on a new machine that started with Mavericks? A project as big as one would be working with while cutting a TV doc program? I’m still hearing mixed reviews from people. Thanks.
