January 10, 2007 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Smallest possible laptop for running XPress Pro? Any ideas?Ok, I am NOT an expert, and it would be pretty bad if you were to rely on this and end up with something that doesn’t work. Given that . . .
I’ve run express pro on a Sony Vaio SZ140 (current model is the SZ360 I think, it’s the only 13″ screen portable by Sony). I bought it for personal uses, being able to run Avid on it is truly a bonus. The unit had an express card slot. I use it with a Ridtec(?) SATA express card (about $100), and a 320 gig SATA portable hard drive (the newer version, I think it’s SATA 3). I have to reboot when I want to use it with the card, and then reboot it when I’m done, the express card shares the same IRQ as the graphics card (scary). I haven’t run it with the purpose of loading it to the gills in order to test it, but I was editing Panasonic 1280×720 24PN HD with effects, and it worked flawlessly.
Also, keep in mind that others shudder at the thought of running Avid on a Sony anything.
Good luck!NoGable

My understanding is that the lens is “much” better (haven’t tested it myself), so the result should be better.

The good news is, I’m pretty sure you can get rid of the hum. The bad news is I’m not the one to tell you how to do it. I have SoundSoap2 (about $100). It’s pretty automatic, or at least easy for a non pro to use, and it does a great job. I’m trying to sort out for myself (my post) if I should get the upgrade to SoundSoap Pro, or if Audition will do the same job with some learning. I’m also looking at a software that might interest you, Diamond something. It’s supposed to be amoung the best at this sort of thing ($200) and does alot automatically.
The sibilance. With Audition you can try to sample a section when you hear just the noise and no voice. Then use that sample to eliminate the sound throughout. It might take some wanted sound with it, but it’s worth a try.
Cow has a few great tutorials. Here’s one for noise:

Yeah,I’m hoping there’s someone out there who familiar enough with both. I can’t seem to find the “definitive” answer on this. I have Audition 2, but I don’t knowif it covers everything that SSP covers.
I appreciate the response.NoGable

I am really surprised this is not a common problem. I tried it on my laptop, a completely different computer, with the exact same result. I found that I can select outside of the program and then select back into the program to “unfreeze”. I can only suppose there is something installed on both my computers that is interfearing with AE, but I rebooted with no other apps loading. By the way, 6.5 ran like a dream.
If anyone has an idea about this, please write it in. All thoughts accepted and appreciated.
Many thanks,

Tried it on and off, no difference. Thanks for the try.

Freezes when Ram previewed. (I am Sam Behrens, I just changed my forum posting name). I must have wrong settings somewhere, but I get the same result when I do a RAM preview.
Many thanks,
