August 8, 2006 at 4:23 pm in reply to: Testing Realtime in Quad? – Simplest effects cause Render 🙁That is what I thought too that almost any transition will be realtime. I also tried some CGM filters but that I understand will prob. require rendering but the FCP filter also need rendering. I was able to get Cross Dissove to work in realtime.
All of my settings point to the Medea which runs at about 300+ MB/s on a test using the AJA Test Utility (unless some can suggest another util.). Render files(also on Medea); well when “rendering” an MP3 about 2 mins in duration, the render takes about 30-45 seconds which kinda doesn’t sound right either. It is a fresh install of OS and FCP 5.1.1
With this massive config, we thought we should be in realtime heaven. I haven’t even started the 8bit and DVCPROHD stuff. I captured in DV just to test the limits of the system.
Thanks

Walter –
I meant 8bit to DV Kona Easy Setup – so basically DV only. I captured in DV to see the realtime limits. I do indeed have the sequence set properly. Its using DV Easy Setup. The clips DO NOT require a render when dropped; so the sequence settings are correct I thinkJeremy –
Sorry, I meant Ripple Dissolve (not Ripple Delete)
Frank –
I did try the Unlimited RT as well and still requirs the render. How DOES one test the realtime limits of their systems.
Thanks guys

July 29, 2006 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Compressor Very Slow & FCP/Motion Sluggish on New Quad – Cross Post FCPNothing real was running on Startup. Not at studio will report back on the Activity monitor.
What I do know is that when the computer goes to sleep mode, it transforms itself into the new Boeing Jetplane with the fans. I have the 7800GT in the system. As for the length of the project, I have got a timeline of about 10 mins.. small clips cross dissolves, exported to Compressor via DVD 120 Best Quality with AIFF and it takes 1hr 30 mins
Thanks

Hi Wayne
I actually have Kingston Memory installed which was made for Mac I believe. We have used Kingston memory for other Macs as well and didn’t have a problem. The processor speed is set to Automatic for Energy Saver. Is it suppose to be otherwise?
Thanks

The Export settings are the Default DVD 120 Min. Best Settings with AIFF or with Dolby 2.0 AC3.
Thanks -
Bob,
I loved it! Every word of it and just cuz of that I am ordering the Quad with the Deli Upgrade 🙂 I wonder how fast those Quad Cores would slice that meat.. I’ll do some benchmarks and report back.
Thanks

Thank You All
I know I can count on your advice here. We purchased a Dual 2.7 yesterday and spent most of the night loading it up. I was really tempted to get the Dual Core machines but at the end of the day, needed to put out another 7k along with it to replace all the cards and hardware soon. And as many of you said, who knows what they are going to do with Intel. Maybe there won’t even be Dual Core or PCIe and if so, you’d still need new hardware anyways. So this will keep us busy for a year or so until the Intel pops up and then we’ll see.
Any guess what the Intel’s are going to be like? Thanks for the help again.

Thank You Walter. Its gives me a lot of relief to see that someone else is running it for a while. I am assuming that it is with the latest 1.1.2 drivers?
Thx..
I guess Monday it is for my G5 to accept the clean install.

Thanks Bob. I will look into the models as mentioned above.
Any setup advice? I am assuming they have single In/Out?
