    Hello Fellow Editors

    A little confused here!
Installed FCP Studio 5.04 with updates on a brand new Quad.
Cut a 10 min DV sequence with couple filters and speed changes to each clip; about 25 clips.

When I had Motion and FCP started at the time while modifying a motion project, the computer froze several times while making the change. Very simple motion project with a simple text and thats it. Either FCP or Motion wiould freeze and would need a Force Quit.

#2: Exporting the 10 min sequence outta FCP says 1 hour 30 mins. Now I know that I have exported projects much much faster on other Dual 2.0’s. Any idea?

    My configuration:
    Quad
    4.5 GB RAM
    Lacie 500GB Capture
AJA IO/Kona3 (but capturing using Kona3->DV for this one)
    ACD 23″ Display
    nVidia 7800GT Video

Should I do a clean Install? The computer is BRAND NEW out of the box and causing all this.
    Thanks for the help

    Sam.

The Export settings are the Default DVD 120 Min. Best Settings with AIFF or with Dolby 2.0 AC3.
    Thanks

    Two questions for you, Sam.

    1. What kind of memory is installed in your system? Did Apple put it in or is it a third party memory that was bought off of the internet?

    2. Under System Preferences, has Engery Saver – Options – Processor Performance been set to Highest?

The reason I ask these things… Memory is not always reliable from other sources unless it comes for the major manufacturers and specifically designed for your particular Mac. The other… I ran into system slow downs myself at first until I found out there was a seeting in Energy Saver for processor speed. It made a HUGE difference for me, and I have a dual 2.7 processor, not the Quad.

Where can you find the option for processor speed in the Energy Saver section? I do remember they used to have this on older OS, but on 10.4?

    Hi Wayne
I actually have Kingston Memory installed which was made for Mac I believe. We have used Kingston memory for other Macs as well and didn’t have a problem.

The processor speed is set to Automatic for Energy Saver. Is it suppose to be otherwise?
    Thanks

    Hey Sam,

The memory should be fine but every now and then even the best manufacturers can have some faulty product. And to answer your second statement, set your processor performance to Highest in Energy Saver, it will make a major difference.

If you have Tech Tool Pro, it will test memory. If you don’t have it, I would suggest you purchase a copy. Its an excellent program to have for just such a problem as yours.
