Yeah, try lowering the audio as the other post had said.
Also, make sure that you aren’t importing it as a compressed file such as MP3. Instead, be sure to use an uncompressed format such as AIFF, which can easily be created by opening the audio file in quicktime pro, selecting Fie>Export>Sound to AIFFI find that MP3 tends to do some skipping, even after rendering, when being edited in FCP. I dont know if its just my system or if its a normal thing, but that’s just my experience.

I think the Macbook Air is a wonderful machine, but to not have firewire, it is a major drawback for video editors or people that just want to use final cut pro. I saw no reason why it wouldnt run it as I had FCP running on an older powermac g4 (i think it was the 866mHz model).
What I think would be great from Apple is to produce a Macbook air size device but with an express card slot, faster processor, and bigger hard drive. No dvd drive, firewire, or any of the bonus features. With an express card slot, it’d be a great complement to the new Sony EX1, be able to still keep it small, and be a great companion for an editor to bring along his/her projects. Also, an express card slot gives traditional workflow of tapes and firewire the opportunity to expand so the computer can have the ability to add on a firewire port. But that’s all just my opinion. A faster macbook air with an express card slot. That’d be great.

May 7, 2008 at 10:03 pm in reply to: DVD makes everything soooo Dark….professional standards etc….well, i dont know much about gamma. i dont usually touch gamma
but for brightness and contrast, that can either improve things if changed a little or make things look bad if done too much (from my experience at least).
You didnt mention if you ran color bar tests on your computer monitor to see if you’re having problems with the monitor calibration, tv monitor calibration, or just your video was shot in very low light.

May 6, 2008 at 5:33 am in reply to: DVD makes everything soooo Dark….professional standards etc….Well a few things you want to double check on:
1. make sure your monitor is calibrated properly. Use color bars because an image that is overexposed/underexposed and viewed on an uncalibrated monitor is no help. if you need help reading color bars, im sure there’s something on the internet. about it. its a tad hard to explain without pictures
2. use your scopes (vectorscopes or histograms) to make sure that the levels are correct and you are truely seeing what you’re seeing.
3. Play back on different dvd players and tv sets. In short, isolate the problem.
Write back once you’ve tried this out and let us know of your results.

Haha. Don’t scare me with if statements.
I kind of understand why it wont go through firewire. in theory, i think it should work because when it plays on my deck, i get an image on its screen, but not though firewire. so if i output the image via svideo to another deck and do a pass through, it should work..in theory at least.
id hate to lose the hd quality, but im only getting $300 so i wont bother renting/buying equipment and also, the final output will be in standard definition dvd.

I see.
That really sucks since i dont have that equipment with me.More interestingly, since the deck has a built in screen, i can easily view the video using the screen, but not capture.
However, if worse comes to worse, i can just output the video via composite or svideo, input that into another deck/camera, and do an ana. to digi. pass through to firewire to get it into my computer…

Can you reprogram the buttons to perform other commands?
based on this picture: https://www.mackie.com/home/showimage.html?u=/products/mcupro/images/MCU-Pro-Top.jpg there seems to be a ton of buttons which seem un-related to final cut. for $1300, i would sure love to be able to make those work to fit my needs. -
How about the extra buttons on the control surface? The device was designed more for dedicated audio editing programs like Sonar. Is there any way to reprogram those for final cut? For example, reprogram them to call up the different tools (blade, pen, roll, etc.)? Or since I do event videography, can I reprogram those extra buttons for a multi-camera sequence edit? Thanks
