One option is just to digitize it and then when you’re done change the clips to anamorphic by checking the box in the anamorphic column in the browser.
If you need to remove the 24PA pulldown while digitizing, then to flag the footage as anamorphic you’ll need to open up the Audio/Video Settings and duplicate the setting you need under capture presets, then select edit and check the Anamorphic 16:9 box. (rename the setting to have 16:9 in it so you can use it in the future.)

If your footage was shot at 24PN, then that means it has no pulldown. It’s native 23.98 (that’s what the “N” stands for).

They would be 23.98. (unless the HPX500 has a setting that changes from 59.94hz to 60hz. I don’t know if it does or not)
I consider best practices to be editing in the native format, so in your case, 23.98. It just prevents problems down the road. What are you finishing to?

If you do a lot of graphics, then it might speed up your rendering times. Also, if you use Motion then it might speed things up a little if you have the better graphics card.
All in all, between the two systems, I don’t know if you’d see a huge benefit by using the faster computer.

Open one of your exported self contained clips in QT and select:
Window-Movie Properties
Select the video track and then select Visual Settings
In the lower right, is the High Quality Video box selected?
If not, select it. Then close out of the window.
Does this make your movie look better in QT?

Just something to try:
If you change your device control preset to non-controllable device, does it stop digitizing after 5 mins still?
What are the specs on your system? What type of footage are you digitizing and how are you trying to bring it in?

If you digitize over firewire then you’ll want to shoot at 24PA. Then when you digitize make sure the capture setting says remove advanced pulldown.
If you are going to digitize with the Kona 3, then shoot 24P and remove the standard 2:3 pulldown when you digitize.
It’s important to note that if you shoot 24PA, digitizing over firewire is the only good way of removing the pulldown.

An article that I read said that performance between the 1TB and the 500GB drives are consistent.
It sounds like a great drive and would be compatible with your PowerMac.

There are some new seagate 7200 rpm drives that can read/write at almost 100MB/sec. I’d go with one of those, but any SATA drive will be compatible.

Rates range anywhere from around $150-1500/day depending on the project and depending on experience. What camera are you shooting on? What experience do you have? What is your time worth to you?
