Did I mention that the Ki Pro records 10-bit to ProRes? 🙂 That means that you don’t have to convert the footage to anything else. It also up, down, cross converts to anything you need. It also has full XLR inputs and outputs.
Also, you can use an iPhone to configure it, hit record, and even name the clips! So you don’t need more people hovering around the camera.
You are right though, it is bigger than the other box you were talking about.

Apple will come out with something. When, I don’t know. But when they do, watch out, because they’ve had a couple of years to work on it. As I’ve said before, I think the new FCS will married to the new QuickTime and Snow Leopard. I was hoping to hear something at NAB, but so far, no news.
I’m sure Apple will continue to innovate, after all they’re Apple and innovate is what they do! Don’t jump ship yet! My guess is that you’ll regret it if you do!

Yes! If you can nail a workflow with the Ki Pro and record your offline edit files to ProRes in the field, then conform back to the R3D files, that’s going to save a ton of rendering!

I would check your preferences and set Cluster Options to “never copy source to cluster.”

With my MacBook Pro, importing footage to ProRes HQ using Log and Transfer takes about 5 minutes to every one minute of 4K footage (24p).
Editing with the _P QT files is actually pretty acceptable. So for just reviewing footage, I’d feel okay just dragging those into FCP on a MacBook Pro.

Final Cut only supports timecode capture when there is deck control enabled. AJA tool should work though.

You can try using the RGB Limit filter in the color correction folder. There is good documentation in the manual about what it does.
