April 20, 2009 at 3:21 pmI’m really glad that AJA is so ProRes stalwart. It’s such a great little codec, and with AJA involved hopefully Apple doesn’t get too many chances to muck it up 🙂
And so much for our litle RED->ProRes dailies conversion jobs we had going….

April 20, 2009 at 3:23 pmYes! If you can nail a workflow with the Ki Pro and record your offline edit files to ProRes in the field, then conform back to the R3D files, that’s going to save a ton of rendering!

April 20, 2009 at 3:50 pmIt looks though like it only records in regular ProRes, not HQ?

April 20, 2009 at 4:02 pmSo are most of you converting Red footage to ProRes before editing? We’re doing our first major project with Red right now and are just using the half-res proxies to edit and will then conform in FCP and Color. Other than seeing the footage higher quality by converting to ProRes, are there other advantages to that workflow?

April 20, 2009 at 6:33 pmEarly on, we ran into some bugs with the FCP-Color workflow, so we switched back to transcoding everything to HD before editing.
Everything we shoot goes through RED Alert to create the RSX file with our one-light parameters. Then the files go into ClipFinder to get rendered over to HD.
I wish the speeds were a little quicker, but overall, this works really well and no worries about XML’s or EDL’s or anything.

April 20, 2009 at 8:25 pmIt does ProRes HQ to the supplied drive cartridge, SQ to the Express34 slot for now. SSD storage will get faster. It’s a cool cool product. Controlled by….wait for it……your iPhone, or any browser capable device.

April 21, 2009 at 9:53 amSo is the LHi a straight-up replacement for the LH? Is the LH now end-of-life?

April 21, 2009 at 10:35 amcertainly seems so:
On Aja’s site there is a little caption saying for a limited time get some cash off the LHe, and of course the LHe is missing from the site now so i would say yes.
