You could also look at the CalDigit RAID card. This will allow you to use the 4 drives as a RAID 5 and puts the system drive in the second optical bay.

I seem to remember that the FCP license says you can have it installed on a desktop and a laptop, provided that you don’t use the same copy and the same time. Look into the license agreement and see what you can find.

I’d just finish the project at 720P. That way you don’t need to worry about the noise in that footage looking worse by scaling it to 1080.

Or get a DVI to HDMI cable and use FCP’s Digital Cinema Preview. This will send your video out full screen to the second monitor connected to your computer.
I don’t really trust this option for color at all, but if you just want to see the video bigger, it’s a good option.

It will stay 4:4:4, but it will be truncated to 8-bits when you render. FCP only supports rendering 4:4:4 RGB at 8-bit.

Sounds like your first tape was DV?
Then you would change the FCP preset to match your HDV output.

You might try exporting them using mpegstreamclip.
