Don’t have time to test it right now, but if you make a 5.1 ac3 file, then bring that into FCP, it might work to select both video file and the ac3 file and select share. Reading the manual, it sounds like it can be done, but it’s not a very clear path.
Also, in the Compressor “add surround sound” button, there is a place to add video. You might be able to get it to attach there. Again, I haven’t found clear documentation on what this button does.

Thanks for your experience. Sounds like it’s simple and works well, as long as you don’t need anything more than the basic play and chapter selection.

The only things that stand out as being strange to me are:
1. Broadcaster asking for a DV file
2. Setting DV file to medium quality
3. Including a fast start for streaming on a DV fileIf you really need a fast start on the DV file, simply exporting the sequence at current settings won’t do it. You’d need to use Compressor or QT Conversion for that.

How did previous versions of FCP work? There was a timecode break, how would the file work? If I know I don’t need the timecode and if I know there are timecode breaks, I would just change the device control to be a non-controllable device.
If you open the file in QT Player and change the counter to timecode, does it reflect the timecode break? You could also try deleting the timecode track in QT Player. If the whole clip is there in QT Player, but not FCP, it’s probably that timecode track giving you grief.

I have a Canon AVCHD (HF10) camera for personal use and I must say that I really like the workflow with FCP 7. I found the camera for $550 at Costco. I really wanted to buy one of the new HFS series, but for $550 for a HD camera for personal use, it was hard to pass up.
I’ve been very satisfied with it. The dynamic range isn’t great and at 17Mb/sec, it still feels quite compressed, but I’m used to seeing footage from high-end cameras, so I guess my standards are quite high.

Apple doesn’t offer a 7200 rpm upgrade, but the hard drive is a user installable upgrade. This means you can replace the drive without voiding the warranty. There are several options:

If you want super fast speeds, then look at the SSD drives.
