You just need to go through folder by folder to see what’s taking up the space. You could have old render files, 25GB of autosaves, etc, around just taking up space.

Does the total GBs of Applications + Library + System + Users = Used space on hard drive?

I’m assuming that you’ve emptied the trash:)
At times like this, Apple+i is my friend. (Apple+Option+i is nice too)
I start by going through the root folder (with Applications, Library, Users, etc) and hitting get info on each one. This will help to figure out where files are hiding. Then you explore more using the for-mentioned key strokes.
You might not need as much as you think because there are probably some old FCP files that the new one will replace. But it’s probably better to just free up the space. Total installation is about 55GB (with everything selected. Everything isn’t selected to by default)

In NTSC, true 24 frames a second isn’t common, especially in broadcast formats. The majority is 23.98 for compatibility with the 29.97 standard.

If you’re finishing in SD (720×480 or 486) and don’t want to zoom in at all, just make them 720 pixels wide (or 900 pixels to have a little more flexibility).
If SD and you want to do little pans and zooms, then go about 1400 pixels wide.
If SD and you want to zoom into someone’s nose, just bring them in as they are.

This is a very big issue. While it’s my understanding that many PAL DVD players will work with NTSC, I don’t think it’s backwards compatible, meaning I don’t think NTSC DVD players will playback PAL discs (convert PAL to NTSC). Someone correct me if I’m wrong here.

Dropping footage in a FCP timeline normally doesn’t solve the issue of standards conversions. Take a look at Nattress Standards Converter. That’s a better solution.

With the AJA IOHD having both timecode in and out, I think we’ll start to see more features like this. QT7 now at least display timecode.
I’d also love to be able to put FCP in remote or local like I can a VTR deck. It’s not a feature I would use everyday, but I could have used it this past weekend.
Also, I’d like FCP to be able to read timecode breaks without freaking out. Just create a new file and let’s move on with our lives.
