I hope you get contradictory adive but I’d suggest you upgrade the Mac not the card.

Wish I could! We already have 1 Intel Mac Pro and 3 G5s. But it was a struggle to get the money to upgrade to FCS 2. So I think the card might be a better idea.

There are no PCI-X video cards so, you will have to replace the current AGP card with a replacement. I recommend either a 9800Pro or an X800. The latter will be significantly better though.

    Yar, understood.
As noted, you must replace the AGP card. Consider the long term implications of putting cash into the G5 to run the current versions of what might soon be Apple’s Intel-only video apps.

nvidia 6800 GT/Ultra is another decent option – my GT really churns for FXPlugs in my PCI-X/AGP dual 2GHz G5. I’m hoping the switch to nvidia for MacBook Pro means focus on great drivers in leopard – tho I’m looking for an X800 or better yet an X850 to free up a PCI slot. One’s an aja Kona3X, one’s a sonnet Tempo X4P, one’s covered by the big graphics card in the slot next to it…

ATI’s X800 XT or X850 XT are the best cards for your system.

Don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but…. We were looking at upgrading a graphics card on a G5 dual to put off a full upgraded edit suite for another six months or so. It took me about a day of reading online and calling around to find out. It’s virtually impossible to upgrade the card on this machine at this time. ATI pretty much stopped production on the only available option. Read on the mac site and somewhere on the cow that people had ordered them on ATI’s website and had been waiting for 6 months for the item to be restocked. Some people finally gave up. The only thing you might be able to do is find a card on ebay, but I would would never trust a used Graphics card (but that’s just me). So we were forced to make the decision to go ahead and upgrade the whole machine/edit suite. Good luck, but I’m afraid you’ll run into the same problem.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT. It is the card that takes up two slots. It was replaced by an ATI card and was working when it was taken out of the G5. If you want to suggest a price?
