Upgrade your laptop to FCS2.

or

Try exporting an XML from FCP6 and importing that into FCP5. Uncheck save clips with latest metadata. Also try one with the include master clips selected.

Many of those files are installed in the Library/Application Support/ folder. Check it out.

You’re right it is supported. I must have read G5 into your first post somewhere. Thinks should be working fine.

Do the captured files playback okay in QT?

Download a demo version of Nattress Standards Converter and give it a test. Compare it to Compressor and DV Film Maker (I haven’t ever used DV Film Maker). See which one will work best for you.

Be sure to read the instructions with the Nattress software.

We organize our files kind of like this:

– Project Folder
– Project Files (FCP, AE, Motion, ETC)
– Current
– Archived (old)
– Non-Timecode Media
– 01 Graphics
– 02 Video
– 03 Stills
– 04 Audio
– 05 FX/Fixes
– 06 Color Corrected
– Timecode Media
– Rendered Graphics/Shots
– Compressed Files
– Other

We set our capture scratch to a location outside of this folder. After we digitize, we move the new files into the Timecode Media folder.

We really like this set up because we can easily backup the needed elements for a project by backing up the Project Files and Non-Timecode Media folder. Everything else can be recreated.

I would also try to render the alpha as straight instead of pre-multiplied if that’s an option in Shake.

It sounds more like a system problem than a problem capturing ProRes. Technically, ProRes isn’t supported on G5 systems, thought there are some people that are doing it successfully.

I’d restart your computer and see if DVCPROHD is working. If not, trash your preferences and give it another shot. If you’re system is still struggling with DVCPROHD, then there is a definite system problem somewhere.

Are you using the latest Kona 3 drivers?

I’m not sure that there are drivers for the IO in FCP6 yet. Check out the AJA IO forum.

If there are no drivers, I guess that answers your question.

Open the file in QT before you import it into FCE. That way you can tell if it is a bad audio file or an FCE problem.
