January 23, 2012 at 5:07 pm in reply to: Inverse 3D Stabilization?

You should be able to create an expression to “invert” the 3D tracking keyframe data, but for a practical 3D stabilize that you describe, would imagine that you’d have to do many separate pre-comps depending on the scene and your goals.

It is a good idea and I believe that we will be able to do something like this in the future.

    Hi Dustin,
We are working on some interesting things for future mocha releases.

I was wondering if you could provide me with an example of a clip or two where mocha is not giving you desired results for stabilization?

We’d love to see some real world examples and do some tests.

    Please email me at: mocha(at)imagineersystems(dot)com

    Thanks!

    Hey there,
There are some formats that mocha can not yet read, so the best bet in this scenario is to export your footage. You do want to make sure that the mocha project setting and your After Effects project match in PAR, FPS and image size.

I would recommend exporting your source footage as sequential Tiff files to insure the proper resolution. You can also check the “CLIP” tab in mocha to ensure the FPS and PAR are set appropriately.

    best,
    Ross

December 28, 2011 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Problem with Mocha / Corner Pin and Picture

What format export are you choosing out of mocha?
If you are using the After Effects Corner Pin export (supports motion blur) try re-exporting the mocha track as: AE Corner Pin (corner pin only). This will do only a corner pin and not corner pi with transform, scale rotation separate.

I believe this was fixed in recent builds of mocha and if you are running the AE version, you can purchase & upgrade to mocha AE v2.6.

Also – you may want to look at other workflows that do better corner pin rendering than the AE CP effect such as Red Giant Warp.

Lastly, there are other ways to get around scaling and resolution issues such as:
    – scaling your graphic to perspective in AE than precomping
    – than using “align surface” in mocha before exporting to apply corner pin data to precomped layers already in perspective.

    Best of luck,
    Ross

October 27, 2011 at 4:10 pm in reply to: After Effects tracking data to Fusion

    Hi Ben,
Just read this thread. A few things to add.

The full version of mocha & mocha Pro export to Fusion directly. If you tracked the footage in mocha AE, you should be able to upgrade to mocha full version ($499 USD) and then load the project and export in desired format.

Another good reason to upgrade might be that Fusion supports .SSF roto import and mocha full version exports to that format as a way of getting mocha roto data into Fusion without rendering.

You can find a comparison guide here:
    https://www.imagineersystems.com/compare-products

and a video that shows the mocha to Fusion workflow:
    https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/mocha-to-eyeon-fusion-workflow/view

While there might be some ways to “hack” at a conversion script from mocha AE, we work hard to offer an affordable solution for Fusion owners in the full version of mocha or mocha Pro.

    Cheers!

There actually is now support for mocha’s planar tracking import into Sony Vegas 10.

Check out Imagineer/Boris bundle: Motion Tracking for Editors software bundle.

June 21, 2011 at 7:20 pm in reply to: mocha stabilization

There is actually a very cool technique for dealing with panning shots in mocha. You “unlink” the layer shape from the track data.

This way the shape stays in place and creates an offset track. As pixels come into the shape it will track them rather than follow select pixels.

This is covered in this video tutorial:

    https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos?tagFilter=tracking+pans&sortBy=Newest

Alternately, you can stop the track and move the shape. You should not have to join multiple tracks to accomplish the task.

    Best,
    Ross

  • Please note that mocha Pro replaces mokey. Same functionality in a better interface and optimized for 64 bit.
