  • Problem with Mocha / Corner Pin and Picture

Posted by Jason Mckee on December 28, 2011 at 3:59 am

I’m hoping someone can help but I am getting and incredibly lo-res render of the picture element that I’m placing into my scene when using the corner pin data from Mocha. I’m trying to add a new license plate into this shot and the tracking data is only good using Mocha’s corner pin but when I apply the tracking data to the PSD file I get an incredibly lo-res render of it. Please help. Thanks.

What format export are you choosing out of mocha?
If you are using the After Effects Corner Pin export (supports motion blur) try re-exporting the mocha track as: AE Corner Pin (corner pin only). This will do only a corner pin and not corner pi with transform, scale rotation separate.

I believe this was fixed in recent builds of mocha and if you are running the AE version, you can purchase & upgrade to mocha AE v2.6.

Also – you may want to look at other workflows that do better corner pin rendering than the AE CP effect such as Red Giant Warp.

Lastly, there are other ways to get around scaling and resolution issues such as:
    – scaling your graphic to perspective in AE than precomping
    – than using “align surface” in mocha before exporting to apply corner pin data to precomped layers already in perspective.

    Best of luck,

Yeah I’m having this same issue, except mine is a super low-res video element in the scene. We seem to be the only two people across the web experiencing this issue.. I’d love to hear if you or anyone has been able to figure it out. I assume it’s something pretty simple, as is usually the case with after effects..

What version of AE and mocha are you using? This was fixed a while back.

At worst you can precomp your layer and use the force motion blur effect.
