August 1, 2014 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Mocha remove module doesn’t work – screencast includedOk, there are a few things that you are missing.
1. To create a good remove in mocha Pro, you need to have a good background track. Your bg track is not very good. You should first focus on this by increasing your search area, turing on perspective and validating the track by viewing the grid or surface button.
2. Your remove layer (in your case the object on the sidewalk) needs to be above the bg track. Layer order is essential. The BG goes below the layer you remove.
3. You have no clean frames in shot. Mocha Pro uses clean frames found temporally in time from other frames to remove foreground objects. In a shot like this when the remove layer is on the same exact plane as the bg track (removing a stain off the ground). The stain exists in every frame.
You will need to paint 1 frame in Photoshop or another paint app and feed that to mocha so that it can track it in and match the lighting.
It may benefit you to watch the mocha Fundamentals vide series first:

You can easily track this in mocha.
All the white will throw off mocha, so what you should do is create a track shape around one of the corners, including the track mark. Next, use the X+ button the create another search shape on the same layer for each other corner. Than track.
Another technique would be to draw 1 layer shape in mocha that only looks at the edges and track points and avoids the center.
In general mocha will give far better results on this type of shot than the AE point tracker if you know how to properly set up the search area.

This is the type of project in which mocha’s planar tracking really shines.
In AE, select your layer and go to Animation>track in mocha AE.
It is bundled with AE for free.

If there are reflections you will want to avoid them. Try to be creative using mochas ability to animate and create multiple shapes on one layer. The more you can focus the track on elements that are moving on one plane, the better. The X+ or B+ buttons are your friend and allow you to make multiple search areas on one plane.
Reflections usually move differently and you want to avoid them.
mocha Pro and the new mocha Plus have a lens distortion tool that can help. While this is usually used to undistorted footage I have seen it used to get a distortion map off a helmet to get solid tracking.

July 22, 2014 at 10:48 pm in reply to: Mocha AE — replaced phone screen is off corner pinsIf you have not solved by now, the answer is to match the replacement (insert) layer to the comp size. You can precomp it, scale it up to comp size, then apply the corner pin to that precomp.
There are more advanced ways to handle this, but if you are just started I would advise to always match the insert size to the comp size.

If I understand your question right, you want to use the align surface button. This is found under the layer controls and will “push the blue surface back to full frame”.
The workflow is track your shot. Adjust your surface as usual. On the frame that you want to paint on, choose the Align Surface button, which resets the surface to full frame size on this specific frame.
Than in Photoshop choose that frame and paint on it.
This workflow allows a user to track a full frame image into a corner pin, so paint work can be done on the full frame.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a corrupt layer or project. Does this happen on any mocha project?
I would advise sending a copy to Imagineer’s support to help get it sorted out.

Hey folks,
To add to this thread: mocha version 4 products can now paste tracked masks directly into Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.The difference between the Premiere mask tracker and mocha is that you can have unlimited mask layers, can handle occluded areas, out of focus objects and fully keyframeable masks.
Hope this helps.
