After clicking around for a few hours…

    1. The ProRes definitely seems to work the best. However, every time I Add my file to Encoder, the Output automatically puts horizontal black bars around the clip. I ended up just changing the aspect ratio to 1440×810. Plays perfectly smooth. Why is that?

1.5. I also tried the Apple Intermediate Codec at 1920×1080 and, I believe, changed the Pixels to HD anamorphic wide. That worked very well. (But then again I assume this will not upload to Vimeo…

    2. The H.246 for Vimeo – basically I would like to keep an aspect ratio of at least 1280×720, the H.246 codec, and keep it under 500mb. I tried running that large reference file through Compressor for the heck of it and it worked very well – expect that the colors were washed out and there doesn’t seem to be a way to fix that.

Also, if there are good explanations of Pixels such as square verses everything else, that would be helpful in figuring this out.

Thank you so much! I do appreciate it.

    I don’t really understand…

But, I have tried using Encoder to convert the video and it simply plays back more smoothly with a constant jerk/glitch. So playback still looks incorrect, and for some reason the output keeps letter boxing the top and bottom even when I input different aspect ratios.

What could I be doing wrong in Encoder? Do you have any preferred presets for Encoding HD clips?

    Thank you!

September 24, 2010 at 7:13 pm in reply to: Heavy Motion Graphics Plays Back Incorrectly in FCP

I have directedly imported the motion project into FCP, which can hardly render and drops images. And I have exported from motion to a file like quick time, which also has a poor play back.

Would they slow things down even in the FCP render? Even after an export from Motion?

    July 5, 2010 at 4:54 pm in reply to: FCP/Motion Into Media100 At 525i ?

When a 720×480 clip is imported the edges of the objects and frame are extremely rough and pixcelated. But when a 720×486 clip is imported, it plays back in a jerky motion with the rough edges.

This doesn’t seem to be working. In the Media100, it only gives the option of doing 525i and with that setting it says it’s NTSC 601 – which is just like 720×480 in Final Cut, correct? I’ve tried putting a 720×486 clip in, but it just looks worse. Any other ideas?

We’ve checked the Media100 settings. It is set to source which says 525i NTSC 601. This is really the only option. We’ve put the 720×486 clips into the Media100 and it looks awful. Any further ideas?

    Thank you

I haven’t used Media100. But, I have a response to, “A razor blade to make a cut? Really? And then switch back to the arrow?”

In FCP, if you would like to make a cut, you can either set In and Out points, used the razor blade, or use a fast and easy keyboard short cut: “ctrl v”

Making cuts with one swift hand movement, one doesn’t even have to switch between the Arrow or Blade tools. But, FYI, to do so, one would simply type between A and B or BB on the keyboard.

I don’t know how many professional companies still use Media100, but I’ve definitely encountered more industry people using Final Cut and or AVID than Media100.

I understand that. But if you only have a Hi8 camera/deck, is it possible to capture the footage in Final Cut without having to wire the camera through a mini DV camera or deck?

    Thank you

So, if a Flash camera like Canon HF S10 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/597438-REG/Canon_3568B001_VIXIA_HF_S10_Dual.html) has an h.264 codec, how would I change the codex to DV or the like?
