Capturing Hi8 without miniDv deck
Posted by Rosie Walunas on December 19, 2009 at 6:25 pmIs there any way to capture Hi8 tapes without a miniDV deck or camera? If so, what is the procedure?
Thanks!

December 19, 2009 at 7:26 pmYou can not capture hi8 with a mini DV deck. Different format.
You will need a SONY hi8 or digital 8 camcorder or deck.

December 20, 2009 at 5:38 pmI understand that. But if you only have a Hi8 camera/deck, is it possible to capture the footage in Final Cut without having to wire the camera through a mini DV camera or deck?
Thank you

December 21, 2009 at 2:51 pmThere are two ways. One would be to have a capture card in your computer. The video output from the camera would go into the card and get into the computer that way.
The other way is to get an analog to DV converter. This way you could capture to the computer via firewire and get right into Final Cut or iMovie. You can find these converters on line.
