I have also called NJ direct two times now since NAB and they still do not know anything about it.

May 24, 2009 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Why buy a PDW-F335?

It is possible that we may be able to have it both ways. At NAB when I approached the Sony Rep about the possibility of a over the shoulder version of the EX series they would neither confirm or deny that it was being worked on. I went to the Panasonic booth and looked at the new HPX 300 and it really felt good on my shoulder until I looked into the view finder. My ex-1 and especially the EX-3 have spoiled me not only with their excellent viewfinders but with their image quality.

Last year I put over 100 hours on a EX-1 all hand held. My wrist still hurts. I moved up to the EX-3 this year and from an ergonomic standpoint it is much better. Now if I could just get more weight(balance) over my shoulder I would be one happy fellow. What I would like to see is a EX-5?? is a configuration much like the HRV270. I shoot hand held commercials on the fly with the 270 and I really like the balance. I just wish it had the image of the EX-3….

For the best of both worlds would be the ex-1-3 for travel and the over the shoulder Ex for other work.

Probably why Sony has lagged behind on producing an over the shoulder version of the EX series is that it would hurt the sale of the XDCAM 300 series. This series produces outstanding video but is hard to justify when you consider the cost of the lens.

Just my 2 cents….. I appreciate all the info I get from the posts on this forum.

  • At NAB I bought one of the Hoodman sxs replacements complete with 16gig RAW card and usb reader for $180. I also have two of the MXR cards and the Hoodman is much easier to place and remove from the EX-3.

I have also heard the same thing. It is more of a hope than a reality.

I have had the EX-1 and now the EX-3 and have been delighted with the images. My only problem has been ergonomics. Both cameras are hard to hand hold. If Sony makes an over the shoulder EX with a decent lens they will not be able to make them fast enough.

    Here is hoping.

I shot with the Ex-1 all last year and now have the ex-3. What I would like to see from Sony is the Ex-3 in a shoulder mount camera about the size of the 270U. I really like the work flow with the Ex and since I now have invested in the SXS cards I would like to see a full size camera developed around the EX. The only thing I dislike about the EX-3 is the design of the view finder. Since it does not come off and the camera is rather wide (because of the viewfinder) it is hard to find a bag that would allow you to travel and have the view finder protected.

If Sony made a full size EX camera similar to the Panasonic 300 with the 1/2 inch chips they would not be able to make them fast enough.

  • We charge 150 per hour with a 3 hour minimum for just shooting alone and handing them the footaqe.. However, several times I have even edited the footage down at no charge when the times were tough.

Speaking of tough times the economic down turm has almost turned off any opportunities for shooting…… It seems to be really working on video production in my area.

Hope your gig turns out to be good for you and your client.

Hello Guys I just ran up on a hard case for the ex-1. It is a LC-Eex1AME by Sony. I found it on page 18 of the Sony brochure
    EXCAMEX.

Hopefully, they will make a similar one for the EX-3. However, I could not find any reference to it on the Sony web page. There is a hard case for the EX-3 on the web site but it appears rather large. I have one of those for a DSR500 and it takes two men and a gorilla to carry it. However, I am sure that it protects the Ex-3.

I know this probably won’t help you now but it may help others. My ex-1 was near the one year mark and I called Sony about the firm ware update and they were most helpful. I sent it in (NJ) and they performed the update for free. Otherwise it would have cost $100.

They also replaced the back plate where the writng had worn off for no charge. Camera worked like a champ and was finally traded for the EX-3. I must say that the folks at Sony (NJ) were most helpful and understanding. I was at the end of my racing season and still needed he camera. I contacted them and they sent me a message stating the problem (firmware upgrade) with a date that would insure the upgrade without cost.

January 23, 2009 at 11:21 am in reply to: M R Card Reader, Transcend

Is this the correct card to use with the MR Card reader for the EX-3?

    https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Memory-TS16GSDHC6E-Frustration-Free-Packaging/dp/B001ECQVTM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232709106&sr=8-3

Sorry to be so dumb and cautious. I just want to be sure I order the correct cards for the MR Card Reader.

    Thanks
