  • They use “foley” sound. They build the soundtrack layer by layer and “construct” what you hear. It is not done in a single pass. The audio alone can take days or weeks to build. (Sometimes, they do not record original foley sounds but use canned sound effects and other bits and pieces that they grab from sound libraries.)

Each element is placed just where they want the sound to happen and at the volume, presence, etc., that works for the piece.

They also use trickery like ADR audio, where they use the “live” audio as reference and re-record the voiceover parts using ADR — replacing the original voice with the new ADR track.

    HTH.

If I recall correctly, ThoughtEquity.com has the rights to CBS and BBC News and some other big broadcasters.

You might give them a peek.

  • What is very sad is that people believe that the pharmaceutical companies are actually regulated by the FDA. Less that 15% of new drugs are EVER submitted for any kind of review or testing — only 1-in-5 is even afforded paperwork submitted before release — and within 5 years, half of the new drugs are quietly pulled from the marketplace as too dangerous.

The head of the FDA is nearly always taken from the upper-echelons of drug company management.

We are on our own kids and if you think they are watching out for you, to quote the prophet Judas Priest, “You got another thing comin’.”

Oddly enough, the anti-Apple fanboys seem to be lining up with just as pathetic a life to live. I cannot remember the last time I saw a Mac user anywhere in this site giving PC users shit for what they use. But there are always some Windows people who seem to have little else to do.

That’s just my take on the whole affair — oh, and I could be wrong because I don’t go out of my way to look for stuff like that.

  • [TImothy Auld] “when your connection starts adding mostly milk sugar to the mix then it’s time to find a new supplier.”

Yeah, Kathlyn and I had to do just that because Bessie started slipping in more and more milk sugar into the mix. (She mootered something about it building strong teeth and bones but I didn’t buy it.)

With everything else coming out of China nowadays, it seems only natural that we’ll start getting our junk from China next. They won’t use milk sugar to cut, they’ll use melamine. It looks the same. ;o)

I never said they weren’t good, Mathieu. I simply said that they suck. 😉

But they think the same of me, so in the interest of balance and fair play, I thought I’d mention that, too.

  • [Mathieu Ghekiere] ” I once had a post that I made here that said it had to be reviewed by the moderators because it had bad words in it, namely D – V – info . net which I found very stupid, to be honest. I can’t even put that word in my post, or that’s a *bad word* ?
So I thought putting links to R-E-D-user would maybe have the same effect, so I didn’t put straight links. It seems to work with you, thanks for your search! Those are indeed the posts that I meant. “

So Mathieu, would you like to know the truth as to why? I’ll tell you…

DVinfo had (has?) an auto-responder on their site that basically took all the people they didn’t like and drove them over here. I wrote Chris more than once and asked him to stop it. He refused.

REDuser had (has?) an auto-link-converter on their site that basically changes every post that anyone tries to make at REDuser that references CreativeCOW.net and changes it to a link for a page entitled “I hate Cows.”

If you ever want a straight answer, feel free to write me. I respond. :o)

Oh and yes, I still think DVinfo and REDuser suck.

I just looked over at Bessie, Rick — and she’s blushing.

Thanks for the kind words, Rick.

[Rick Lang] “After the international stealing of personal WiFi networks while preparing their Google Map street views, how can anyone trust their intentions?”

My personal view on this is that pretty much anyone over the age of 35 worries about this, while nearly everyone I know under the age of 35 doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

Most of the young people that I know look at the world differently than I do. They think nothing of leaving their WiFi network wide open and shared with anyone standing near or walking by. Me? I’d never leave my network open.

Google uploading street images across open WiFi networks is not only NOT offensive to most of the under 30s that I know, but they would welcome it. The whole idea of social media is truly “social” to them.

They view the network as an organic collective much in the same way that Native Americans looked at the Earth, believing that no one really owned it, it belonged to everyone who lived on it.

Technologies like Torrent feeds, Spotify, Tubes, etc., all work on the idea that the network is you, me and everyone who is tapped into it — we not only feed from the network but we ourselves collectively help fuel and feed it, as well.

These are fascinating times we live in, times in which the very fabric of our societal constructs and under-pinnings are being rethought, changed and rewritten.

  • Bobby,

Adding to what Joseph Owens said, the iPad and the iPhone HAVE allowed Apple to make many inroads into the enterprise sector that they were not in before.

Maybe you missed the fact that Apple basically rode in and took over both RIM (Blackberry) and Nokia’s part of the market. Apple’s growth and success basically came at their expense.
