Many, many thanks for this wealth of info, I’m going to go with Motion for now because it seems to work at a level my poor lil’ brain can handle :-).
It’s good to know I’m not alone with these problems.
Oh btw it was shot on a DSLR not sure which one, but if there are any other potential pitfalls/benefits with shooting green screen with or without a DSLR I’m all ears.
Cheers all!

Ah I didn’t realise that, I’ve never used anything other than Avid Xpress and FCP

have you tried making the 1080i a 720 by using a 720 timeline with no field dominance and then compressing to SD?

Also you forgot to mention if cost is a factor then Premiere beats Avid by quite some way.
I reckon with the fall of FCP 7 Adobe are going to step up they’re game in the next couple of years or so and really iron out some of those problems that Shane mentions. After all wasn’t it FCP that copied the Premiere platform in the first place?

Thanks a lot guys, the footage has already been shot and I’m being brought in on a rescue edit and was wondering how DSLR differs from other tapeless workflows.
I suppose (hope) they have a fully synced (AC3/Mp3.
Once again many thanks.

When you say the 1080i is uploaded in SD what do you mean?

Premiere “acts” more like FCP so not such a steep learning curve as with AVID.
FCP X sucks balls

FCP will accept H.264 but it’ll run like a 3 legged pig, you’ll have to transcode.
The reason these cameras use H.264 is that they’re still cameras with a video function, so their focus isn’t on giving you the best possible editing codec.
