Ok, I take it you mean you want to know how to save the open in new window or not settings to your server settings for the production group?

The option is saved as part of your preferences, but as it’s an item which isn’t explicitly set in the preferences dialog changing the value and saving it as part of the server settings is a bit more complicated.

If you’re an administrator and want to edit the production group setings you’d normally right click on the production group in the server tree and choose Edit Settings (or edit the production group in the Groups & Roles section of the Server Admin panel). What this does is load the latest settings from the server, open the preferences dialog, then save the settings back to the server. This doesn’t give you a chance to go into the advanced query dialog and have it remember what you selected in the drop down.

What you therefore need to do is the following:

• Right click on the production group in the server tree and Load Group Settings
• Bring up the query dialog and perform a dummy query, choosing the query results display setting you want
• Right click on the group again and choose Save Group Settings

I’m not very familiar with the RED workflow but I thought you could install the QuickTime REDCODE codec and then build proxies from the QT reference movies?

You say that’s an existing catalog? Can you try importing the DVCProHD clip again (or use the Reanalyse Media command) with the latest version of CatDV and see if it works then?

10.0b5 and later added a new metadata field “EncodedDimension” that stores the native codec dimensions rather than display dimensions and the FCP7 exporter uses this information.

On the first page (General tab) of Preferences you can switch between simple and advanced menus. By default we don’t show less commonly used commands to keep things a bit simpler for new users. Once you enable advanced menus you’ll see Manage Proxy Movies in the Media menu.

The general idea with proxies is that CatDV doesn’t directly store a hard link to the proxy file for a clip. Instead, it calculates the location of a proxy file from the stored Media Path (the path from which you originally imported the media file) and the Proxy Path Mappings (path-based media search path).

If proxies don’t work, the first thing to do is check the Media Path for the clip, then look at your media search paths and find the corresponding mapping (you can have multiple entries there, giving you great flexibility in having proxies in different locations if necessary).

Currently the worker doesn’t use clip lists I’m afraid. What are you trying to do – query for clips based on the clip list they are in, or add clips to a clip list from the worker?

The worker can create catalogs automatically based on the time and date when the script runs, which is useful once your workflow is running normally and new files trickle in slowly.

You can also create catalogs in other ways however. One approach is to use CatDV Pro rather than the worker node, and import one folder at a time manually. That way you can organise clips into catalogs however you want.

The other approach, if you use the worker, might be to specify the catalog name based on part of the filename, for example the top level folder after the watch folder root or something like that.

You should be able to restore them across different platforms, yes, though I must admit this isn’t something that’s extensively tested. I’m sure we can provide help to get it to work if necessary.

Just to clarify, are you saying smart folders aren’t grouped by production group, or that you’re seeing smart folders that don’t relate to the groups you’re in?

What version of the server are you using? We did make some fixes relating to smart folders in the web client in 6.6b10 I believe.
