Yes, you can use the Paste Metadata command for that, telling it to merge or append the data rather than overwriting it. (You need to enable advanced menus via the General tab of Preferences to see that command.)

CatDV only has fairly limited sequence support (cuts only, limited audio handling, no effects or transitions). It’s mainly designed to help with logging (eg. if you’ve cut a sequence and want to generate subclips from it) rather than rendering a complex sequence on the fly (though you can do that for simple cuts only sequences).

I don’t think we said anything about XMP export. CatDV 9 supports importing XMP metadata from most common media files however.

“Self-contained reference file” is a contradiction in terms. If you create a sequence by assembling parts of several movie files into one there are three ways you can export this as a movie using QuickTime:
- A reference file, which might typically be only 4K in size and is a list of pointers that refer to your original media files. A reference movie therefore won’t play if any of those source media files are moved go offline.
- A self-contained or flattened movie, which has the same structure as a reference movie (same number of tracks etc.) but includes a copy in it of the media that it needs, without transcoding, so it doesn’t depend on any other files.
- A movie that has been transcoded to a new format. Again, this doesn’t depend on any other files, and has the effect of burning in things like an overlayed watermark image or timecode display.

I don’t recall seeing this issue. If you have a reference movie that fails I would do some tests on that to try and work down what’s happening:
– verify you can import and play that file in CatDV
– try to export a movie from that in various formats (File > Export As Movie) and see if they play ok
– repeat the export from Compressor
– try importing, playing, and transcoding that reference file in other apps (eg. FCP7, QuickTime Player, etc.) -
Strange, that code should work and be in 10.0b6 as far as I know.
Can you quit and relaunch CatDV so you start a new session then import the P2 clip into the catalog, save it as a .cdv catalog file then mail me that and the CatDV Error Log (accessible from the Help menu) to rolf@squarebox.co.uk?

I’m afraid that currently the Copy and Move Media Files commands don’t preserve the folder hierarchy (except in the case of P2 metaclips, where you can use it to copy clips from one card to another for example). You could do what you want using the CatDV Worker Node or the Archiving Option, though both of those involve an extra cost.

The quick search field excludes the marker category name but if you do an advanced search on the Event Markers field that searches the category.
Other options might be to use the Verbatim Logger and set up macros on the numeric keypad keys, or possibly to create subclips for those specific frames. We’ll make a note to see about implementing your feature request in a future version of CatDV however.

The Browse Catalogs window gives you basic searching across catalog files in the same directory, but for more advanced functionality you would need the CatDV Server. Bryson is correct and most server users tend to put metadata at the clip level (or perhaps into the event description, if they want to tag several clips as belonging together) rather than catalogs so I’m afraid we’re unlikely to make that window configurable in the way you suggest.

The Web Client should support Chrome and IE8 and IE9, though I don’t know if older versions of IE are supported.
You might need to adjust the option whether to use HTML5 video or the QuickTime plugin between the different browsers. We plan to publish recommended proxy settings and a list of supported browsers in the near future.
