You’ll want to look at AE’s File>Export>SWF feature. There’s also Adobe Edge Animate which creates small animation files with/without interactivity, intended for Web delivery.

Track Mattes work on all visual layers. Mark has given you one solution. Another option is to create a solid layer at the top of your Timeline and create a mask where the PNGs should appear within. Then set this layer’s Blending Mode to Stencil Alpha.

This is a strange. Is the issue specific only to Illustrator Files? If it is then check on Prefs settings that are relevant to AI and check your AI files formatting, when you save your file.

I suggest that you post your AEP here so that someone can take a look at it.

New in AE CC is Refine Soft Matte and Refine Hard Matte. You will find these in Effects>Matte.

Prior to signing up for a course, you should always check on the credentials of the trainer and the training provider. You should also always check on the syllabus. Then ask to see reference videos of what will be taught in the class.

I’m into my 15th year, training folks in AE. It’s amazing why/how folks select an AE course. I oftentimes surmise that they actually spend more time deciding what to have for dinner. 😉

AE has gotten so HUGE that the standard training supply of Basic, Intermediate and Advanced courses that are offered, are not able to empower users to meet industry demands. Workshops or Masterclasses are required to fill this void.

My post will of course be incomplete if I didn’t plug one of my Advanced AE courses :-D. See the link in my sig line.

BTW, Digital Tutors seems to have a few advanced online classes. Lynda is so-so for advanced stuff. AndrewK’s stuff is of course good but lacks a structured course syllabus/outline.

Is the shrunk footage visible when imported into mocha or after you apply the tracking results in AE? You can check the footage dimensions/attributes in mocha by clicking on the Clip tab in mocha.

mochaPro’s Remove Module should work well for this. It can handle the tracking, masking and luminance shifts well.

If you only have AE or mocha AE then you should be able to at least complete the tracking and masking bits. Hmmm, you may also get away with extracting a Luma Matte (as per conventional Sky Replacement technique) of the sky and inserting a new sky to solve that issue. This will also allow you to place a nicer-looking sky footage.

On the Q regarding the Clone Tool and Rotobrush, I’m not certain which is better. Rotobrush has a built-in tracking algorithm while the Clone Tool has source and target position props which can be attached to motion tracked points. In short, both are viable; with no strong indication, from my POV, which should be preferred for your specific task/footage.
