aha! import composition without retain layer sizes keeps the components registered and brings in the clipping path ones too . . . . maybe its solved – dare I say by searching the archives 😐

    Hi
    thanx for the responses.
I have released to layers successfully except the layers that have the clipping masks. I save the AI and then import into AE(all CS5). I now have a composition that is a hard flattened image of the AI file and I have a folder with all the components of the AI (except the bits with the clipping mask – and maybe a key to my dilemma might be that its not about the clipping mask but that the clipping mask is over “non native art”) since I want to animate all the components I pull all the components into the composition but they are all stacked and not in the positions the AI had them. So is it possible to import the AI components and keep them all in the AI positions?

    Hi Matt,

thx for the response. there are 70+ layers and most of them are just paths with a color but some are graduated fill shapes and that has been achieved by using a clipping path. I want to change the clipping mask to be just a regular path.

Hi Todd and thx for response,
I have removed and re-installed CS4 Prod Premium and then downloaded all the updates – about 840meg! It was working fine a week or 2 back and I dont recall any software that I have installed. I started dealing with this last Fri afternoon and all day today (Mon) and cant work it out. It is likely not directly AE issue but I Have removed and re-installed so I dont get it. 9.0.3.8 is my current vers.

Crash message reads “After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <5836> <0> Unable to obtain the User ‘Language’registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\9.0.3\Defraulting to en_US’.

I am no IT guru but I usually get round OK but this is confounding me bigtime.

    cheers

Thanks for the response Jeff. I just had that thought too and it’s correct. I went in and checked user operations for some reason on ep1 it was set to not play chapters which in turn greys out search chapters. I havent burned one yet for proof but I am pretty sure thats what it is.

    cheers

    Hi MIchael,
thanks for the response. I dont think it was frame rate on the audio – I checked the frame rates. The weird thing was that in AE the sound synced with the vision fine. 25 fr comp exported mpg for client ref and tga for finishing in eQ. import the tga seq into eQ and match with the track (audio still sitting in eQ) and it was out. So I imported the mpg as a guide and perhaps pilfer the audio but here was the really weird bit….. the mpg synced fine within itself and when I layed the mpg vision as a guide against the tga seq the vision was spot on but extracting the audio from the mpg I found that it was now short as per the original track (fade up twilight theme) could H264 be behind it?

I am still digesting your links on performance

    thanks

I got rid of it all with a work around and now I cant manage to recreate it – soon as I get it again! I just thought maybe it was a known issue.

    cheers
