    Hi All,

I have had 2 strange issues on the last project:

    1) the client whipped me up an audio track on Audition (I think) which i pulled into AE and worked away for a while. then came to a bit that needed a bit more SFX so i exported it to a Quantel system to do a little mix and then back into AE – all good so far. On completion of the AE stage I exported the vision into the Quantel as TGA sequence. The audio was still in Quantel so i lined it up and . . . . it was too short! it was all there but about 20% shorter.
There was no lip sync so in the end we just slowed it down and all was OK but it left me deeply confused.

    2) rendering jumped between 3-4 secs per frame up to 18 secs per frame on my HP Z600 dual quad 8gig ram. it started out really slow so i sent the project to our other suite MAcPro dual quad 6 gig ram and got much the same but different! The Mac started at 3-4 secs frame and then slowed to 18 secs. render time on either machine was ranging from 14 hours to 100 hours. I tried so many different settings but nothing really seemed to help. It was a 3d project so i had render multiple frames off. If i have 8 gig of ram how come AE doesnt go more than 2.4 gig of mem usage?

    is my post too long?

As to the audio weirdness, it sounds like there was a frame rate mismatch. How many frames per second was the other machine expecting and what frame rate was your AE composition that you rendered?

As to the memory, what version of AE are you using? This may answer your questions. Here are some setting suggestions.

    Hi MIchael,
thanks for the response. I dont think it was frame rate on the audio – I checked the frame rates. The weird thing was that in AE the sound synced with the vision fine. 25 fr comp exported mpg for client ref and tga for finishing in eQ. import the tga seq into eQ and match with the track (audio still sitting in eQ) and it was out. So I imported the mpg as a guide and perhaps pilfer the audio but here was the really weird bit….. the mpg synced fine within itself and when I layed the mpg vision as a guide against the tga seq the vision was spot on but extracting the audio from the mpg I found that it was now short as per the original track (fade up twilight theme) could H264 be behind it?

I am still digesting your links on performance

    thanks
