  • I Fixed the issue. I went back into FCS remover and this time checked BOTH Compressor 4 AND Compressor 3, I guess for whatever reason some settings were still lingering from that. But after uninstalling completely and reinstalling, I can now see the Custom Settings in the Destinations under share for FCPX.

  • This problem is still happening for me even after all suggestions. I have FCPX 10.0.6 and Compressor 4.0.5 and I have looked in library/application settings/compressor/settings and all my custom presets are there. I see them in Compressor. I have tried installing FCPX and Compressor from scratch on a different machine, and NO ISSUES, HOWEVER, when trying to uninstall and REinstall on the first machine, still the same issue. How can you COMPLETELY remove FCPX and Compressor as if it was NEVER on your system? I have used FCS remover and it does not seem to work either, since when I reinstall, my previous settings have come back!

    My issue is this:

  • thanks for the reply.

I am able to navigate through all of that, and know how to do it. What my issue is, the custom settings vs. the apple presets that appear when you click on compressor settings within share in FCPX 10.0.6 I have custom settings that I have created in Compressor, that will not show up in the custom settings folder in FCPX. Apple setttings lists 10 groups, Custom Settings lists 0.

I filed one with Apple back in December of 2011. They have released three updates since then, and this was not included. Granted the updates they made are tremendous, and possibly more important. I was able to get a work around going from kind posters here.

I now use “Export Using Compressor Settings” with background rendering turned on, and I deselect the option to open compressor. This allows you to send each project (be it one at a time….) to the export queue, they will only process one at a time, but you can keep adding to queue, and keep working in FCPX.

if you are referring to having the text revert after finishing a
project and re entering, I believe that was addressed in the 10.0.2 release. have you tried updating? I have been handling large amounts of projects through FCPX for example a recent event yielded 75 sep projects/videos. I had to update text and a graphic in all of them from a temp I created in motion and they have all kept the fonts and lettering. though I will say that the “preview” I see of my
projects still has the initial template info, when I click back into the project they are all good. this worked for me. hope this helps.

  • Hi again, helpful creative cow forum people!

I am still having some issues with this mass exported project. I am attempting to use a custom setting created in compressor, and then using the “Export using Compressor Setting” option in FCPX, however, for some reason, FCPX gets the beachball and hangs forever whenever I select the custom setting. If I use a stock setting, all seems to work fine. However a custom one, just hangs. I have tried deleting and re-creating my settings, and now I notice that I only created on setting, yet two setting show up in FCPX, when only one exists in Compressor. This was of course after i restarted about 5 times to get the setting to even show up in FCPX. Any help would be appreciated.

  • WOW. Thanks to both of you! Mark and Dave!

Both solutions work, and will allow me to get this done in a reasonable amount of time. I think the “export using compressor settings” option is the way to go. First you need to set up a custom setting in compressor but then your good to go. It sucks that the destination does not come through as well, and you have to select which folder its going to, but with background processing and the share monitor it functions just like you want to handle a batch. And this is pretty much the same thing I used to do in premiere, selecting each sequence and specifying its location before going to encoder. Thanks for your help guys. I hope others can check this out if they the need to batch export.

  • I tried this, but I seem to only be able to paste 2 jobs into a batch. It won’t let me paste any more then 2…have you had this issue?

  • Thanks for all the feedback, I am glad to see I am not the only one who needs this feature!

I am going to look into putting FCP7 on my machine and trying the XML converter from original project. The issue I have is, compared to the way I used to do this in premiere pro, FCPX has actually knocked off a ton of time and with motion i can make easy templates to make my titles. So on the front end I have knocked off at least an hour of work, but, now on the output, I am having issues. I think the work around with the XML thing might be the best way to go. I am not really using any of the thing that don’t make the conversion.

Do you guys know if compressor 4 works with FCP7 or will I also need Compressor 3.5?

As for making a giant quicktime movie and cutting it there, that wont work for me since I have to make titles for them all first. and I actually have two of these concerts in January so it will be around 200 videos!

Thanks for your responses, It really goes a long way to even chat with others, even if its to find out Apple is the problem!

December 28, 2011 at 1:05 am in reply to: Has FCP X lost Batch Export as well?

If there is no batch export from FCP X and your suggesting sending each export (i’m assuming to a .mov) just using the Command-E export option…that would take HOURS AND HOURS for a project that had say 100 seperate (approx. 5min) videos.

I shoot long concerts and need to take the 5 hour show and cut out each song to post for my company. It ends up being about 5-7 min. per song. I am shooting in AVCHD @ 720P. One of my projects with a simple text credit in and out, is approx. 1.5gb and takes about 7min to “export” then your saying I have to bring all those 1.5gb files into compressor in order to “Batch compress” them down to 9mb files??? This seems insane and not practical at all. Am I missing something, I am a very VERY novice user of both shooting and editing. I was using Premiere Pro 4 on a windows PC and I could export each sequence to encoder and hit go, come back in about two hours and I was done. Have I screwed myself by switching to FCPX?? Do people NEVER do this?? That is send multiple projects or “sequences” at a time? I thought this would be common. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.
