Title fonts change each time I reopen project
Posted by Chris Walker on October 21, 2011 at 1:01 amI’ve been editing a movie with a lot of titles, and when I change from the default font on certain titles and then export no problem, but if I quit fcpx and then reopen, the default fonts are back and I have to change them again. This happens whether or not I wait for all rendering to complete before quitting. Why would this be and what can I do about it?

October 21, 2011 at 1:57 pmI have seen this. I reported it to Apple.
It occurred to me that font problems might have something to do with it.
I went through my fonts both by looking at the preview in Photoshop and also in Font Book. The preview in Photoshop showed some fonts that would not show text characters in preview just empty “null character” boxes (not sure what they are called). Most of them were non-system fonts that I had installed at some time or another. I also had some fonts show up with problems in Font Book. I removed any problem fonts by disabling them in Font Book. Not sure at this point if this solved the problem but I haven’t had an issue since I did this.
You might try running font validation in Font Book to see if you have any problem fonts. It might help.
The other area that might be a problem is the title generator reverting to its defaults due to a bug. It shouldn’t do this but who knows. That’s why I reported it.

October 22, 2011 at 5:19 amI experience the same problem and have reported it to Apple. It seems that the title clip can become corrupt whie changing the parameters. About half the titles I make become corrupt by varying degrees. Some titles just revert to the default font upon re-launching FCPX, while others completely lose the text, kerning, line spacing, etc. The titles remain intact if I switch projects; it’s not until I quit FCPX and re-launch that the titles lose their settings.

October 22, 2011 at 2:30 pmI’m experiencing the same thing with changing fonts when quitting and reopening. Seems to only be affecting some titles and not others. Have validated all fonts.
At first, thought it might be connected to the Undo bug (where Undo becomes grayed out and FCP stops saving from that point forward) – but it appears to be a separate issue. Because my current method (as of yesterday) of working in FCP…make a change; check for the Undo bug by keeping an eye on the Edit menu for a grayed out Undo – make a change; check for the Undo bug – make a change; check for the Undo bug, etc. doesn’t apply to the changing font issue. Normally, if I quit immediately after noticing the grayed out Undo it will save the last change. Not so with the font bug. I can quit without Undo being grayed out and the fonts will be wrong upon relaunch regardless.
Have to admit I’m about to give up on FCP X. I first noticed the Undo bug when I lost 2 hours of color correction yesterday. And now this font bug. Hand splicing film was faster than working around these bugs. The font issue is serious enough, but a minor annoyance compared to the Undo bug, which is a show stopper. Have searched everywhere here and on the Apple forums and have seen lots of complaints, but haven’t seen a confirmed solution to that one. If anyone can point me to a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, will be sure to report back if I run across a solution to either of these.

October 25, 2011 at 1:34 pmI have also seen this problem, in addition to another issue that I brought up with Apple. On some title pages I can’t change the face color or adjust color correctly at all on the text. For example, when using the four corners title, if I choose face to change the color of one of the lines and I go to the drop down, which normally has the options for -, Color, Gradient, Texture……they are all screwed up. Gradient does not bring up the gradient swatch, Color selects -, Texture Selects Color! Nothing selects texture! When I do get the color to change and i pick BLUE…the text shows up as BROWN or YELLOW OR whatever random color. I have called Apple about this, and they confirmed the issue with me over the phone and admitted that its a bug and told me to not use that title….problem is, I have found the problem on almost all of the titles. They told me they know about it, and can do nothing…REALLY? Can anyone help, this is kind of a big deal, First fonts won’t save, then you can’t change the color?? Whats the point?

November 1, 2011 at 8:21 pmHeya’s, the text issue is a major problem causing me hours a week. Not only do you lose the text every time you reopen FCPX it re-renders the new wrong text… and for all the background rendering…If I try to do anything while it is rendering I get beach balls and more often than not a closed program.
As for the Four Corners Text the color doesn’t appear to be bug related as I had the same problem. What you need to do is go to the Title section a check Use Face Color. That will allow you to use what ever color you selected. You can also turn off build out or build in so you can create a fade.

November 10, 2011 at 5:37 pmI’m having the same text problems grrrrrrrr.
I did a few things.
I deleted FCPX and downloaded it again. That seem to stop the problem so fare (have only tested it for a few hours).
Also I have created a new user account but have not tested it yet, but I think that would work too.
The problem started yesterday while I was doing some title work on a movie. The thing got stock and I had to force quite. From that point on no new text is saved after quiting. This is a huge issue since I’m doing lots if subtitles 🙁

November 10, 2011 at 10:24 pmI’m setting at the computer now I just did another test. It looks like when I create a new project everything is working normal for the title formatting.

January 31, 2012 at 12:13 amif you are referring to having the text revert after finishing a
project and re entering, I believe that was addressed in the 10.0.2 release. have you tried updating? I have been handling large amounts of projects through FCPX for example a recent event yielded 75 sep projects/videos. I had to update text and a graphic in all of them from a temp I created in motion and they have all kept the fonts and lettering. though I will say that the “preview” I see of my
projects still has the initial template info, when I click back into the project they are all good. this worked for me. hope this helps.
