I know — and it’s not going to work unless you follow one of my suggestions. 😉 The official Divx codec is not recognized by Vegas natively. That is why you need either a) a VfW version of Divx or b) something like ffdshow that will fake it.

Did these same “split AVIs” work okay in Vegas before your drive got hosed? If yes, my guess is that in your recovery, you didn’t restore the codec needed by those AVIs.
Your “splitter” app probably encoded the pieces using a highly compressed codec like Divx, Xvid, etc — what are called DirectShow codecs. Vegas doesn’t recognize DirectShow codecs natively; it likes VfW (Video for Windows) codecs. What you need is either a VfW-specific version of the codec or something like ffdshow.

For what it’s worth, I’m on my second DVD burner, and haven’t had a problem sine DVD Architect 1.0 (am now on DVD Architect Pro 5.0 and have used every version in between except 4.0). When I did have a problem, it was with a particular type and brand of media — different media worked fine.

Select the button you want to change and then double-click the frame you want to use for it. DVD Architect will apply that frame to the selected button(s).
What you did before was add another button (one without any media attached to it, which is why you saw “Broken Link”). Your original button was untouched.

Do you mean the button that you added as per above? Just select and hit Delete. Or do you mean something else?

There are two ways to pick a color for the Colorize setting:
1. Click on the “color bar” (I guess you would call it), which brings up a basic color picker. When you use that, the Alpha value of the color will be set to 255.
2. Select the Colorize setting and then click the dropdown arrow to bring up a more advanced color picker. The rub with this second one is that, even if you click color, it doesn’t set the Alpha value automatically. So the value remains at 0 (transparent). To change the value, type a new one (between 0 and 255) in the “A” box or use the arrow / line in the Alpha picker on the left.

Did you set your Project Properties (File > Properties) to widescreen (16:9)? The default is 4:3.
If you plan to use widescreen most of the time, choose a template from the dropdown at the top, check the box labeled “Start all new projects with these settings,” and hit Apply.

How far are you trying to move it? Vegas has a feature called “snapping” that assists you in lining events up with other elements — the cursor, markers, timeline divisions, other events, etc — by instantly gravitating to such things when you’re really close to them. If the position you’re trying to move the event to is close enough to the event’s original position (which was already snapped to something), this may be why you’re having trouble.
To remedy this, either a) temporarily turn off snapping by going to Options > Enable Snapping to uncheck it; or b) zoom in your timeline using your scrollwheel or by clicking the plus sign on the bottom right of the timeline.

That I can I understand. What I meant was that I didn’t see why you’d want the the loop point timecode to be the same as your menu length (thereby putting the loop point at the end when it should be, well, anywhere else).

I can confirm this. I just tried the same thing, and DVDA5 bombed out. Not really anything anyone here could do to help, I imagine. Report it to Sony as a bug.
That said, I’m not clear why you’re even trying to do what you are.
Just to clarify, the reasoning behind a loop point is this: The viewer puts the disc into their player, and the menu starts from the beginning. When the player reaches the end of the menu, it loops — restarting at the loop point and, again, plays to the end where it loops again. Rinse, lather, repeat. This is done so your menu can have an introduction animation that only plays once.
By setting the loop point to the same as the length of the menu (20 seconds), you’re telling DVD players that when they get to the end of the menu, they should return to…the end of the menu. Unless I completely misunderstand what you did.
I think what you want to change is not the loop point, but the Out point. It’s a yellow flag at the end of the timeline and decides where the end of the menu is. Move that, and the DVD player will play the menu until that point and then loop — starting at either the In point or the Loop point if there is one.
