Check out the legacy QX CPG:
https://support.media100.com/CPGs/docs/qxCPG.pdffor the last round of approved configs from several years ago…

Was it a -19007 or -19017 error? You may want to check out:
https://support.media100.com/KBSearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=44If you have an E6000/RealTimeFX, you could also try pulling that board and see if it helps.
To backslush, run the Finish diags then hold down the control key and double-click with the right mouse button in the empty space between the buttons, then update should unghost.
You need to make sure that you were actually running the earlier version of software (and firmware) with that board, otherwise you may run the risk of potentially damaging the board by backslushing.

Sounds like you’re having drive problems:

[Thomas Hughes] “respect the voodoo and try a handful of different work-arounds”
There’s no voodoo about it. BVF are usually caused by one of a few things:
https://support.media100.com/KBSearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=33Floh is correct, in this case it’s compatiblity with the board. To successfully use a G5/expansion chassis, you need a lossless-capable P6000 (although lossless itself doesn’t actually work in a chassis/G5) otherwise you will likely get BVF errors.
For more info, see the CPG:
https://support.media100.com/CPGs/default.aspxon p. 3
“Non-Lossless P6000 Boards are not compatible with the G5/Expansion Chassis
you are interested in upgrading your system to a PowerMac G5, please contact your
100 office for board upgrade information, or to see if you board is compatible.” -
[Floh] “Most of this stuff is faked…”
A lot of it is faked/sensationalized by television shows and movies (unless you happen to actually work for the CIA…), but there are real forensic video tools available:
https://www.avid.com/products/forensic/index.aspjust not for M100. =(
I don’t have any direct experience with them, but Ocean Systems partnered with Avid:
https://www.oceansystems.com/dtective/index.htmlif you happen to know anyone in law enforcement who may have access to a system.
As Floh suggested, try exporting a still and manipulating it in Photoshop using Unsharp Mask. You could also take a look at the individual red, green or blue channels in the PS Channels palette to see if any single one of them is a better jumping off point (contrast, etc.) to start manipulating from.

Versions 4.5 and earlier used dongles for authentication. Anything later (versions 5.x and on) used an encryption code (system key) that tied the particular version of software to the specific serial number of the board, so you won’t be able to swap things around as you are trying to do. You’ll need the specific system key for the serial number of the board and the version of software. You can’t just install a new version software on any board; M100 did this to cut down on software (ahem) *sharing*.
Depending upon the particular generation of G4 you’re trying to run in, you may need a specific version of the M100 software in order for it to work – Apple changes things from generation to generation of Macs (timing, latencies, etc.) and in some instances, M100 had to provide software updates for compatibility with a particular generation of Mac. For instance, support for the G4 “Gigabit Ethernet” models required a minimum of Media 100 Version 6.0.3:
https://support.media100.com/KBSearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=171Version 7.0.2 and later provided compatibility for the “Digital Audio” generation of G4s:
https://support.media100.com/KBSearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=169and etc.
Note that the above are just patches – you’ll need the full version of either 6.x or 7.x (and the corresponding system key for the serial number of the board you’re using) previously installed for them to be able to update. If you don’t have the original install discs, you would probably have to get them from another source (AFAIK, M100 currently only supports versions of 8.x under OS X – anything for OS 9 is getting pretty long in the tooth by now…) or you may need to purchase an update to Version 8. Your other option would be to try contacting the original seller and see if they can provide the correct system key(s) for the board you bought from them or the install disc(s). You could also just use version 6.0 in the G3 the system came in.
Basically, you want to get the legacy CPG:
https://support.media100.com/CPGs/default.aspxand follow the recommendations there as closely as possible. The M100 software, OS, QuickTime versions and everything else are laid out in the master compatibility chart at the beginning of the doc and in the particular section for whichever Mac you may be using.
Floh is right about the HAL fragment message:
https://support.media100.com/KBSearch/kbDocument.aspx?id=41and it may also be due to the fact that you’re trying to run 6.0 on a later generation G4, which simply won’t work without the correct update or version of M100 software.
Good luck,

A .qtl file is a QuickTime link file. Basically it’s an XML-based pointer/reference type of file that will launch a QuickTime movie file in QuickTime player (as opposed to using the QuickTime browser plugin.) One application would be to prevent hijacking by another player.
For more info, check out:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/QT4WebPage/samplechap/special-11.htmlhttps://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/QT6WhatsNew/Chap1/chapter_1_section_53.html
and
https://www.quicktiming.org/tutorials/qt_web1.php
down at the bottom, under “Launching QuickTime Player from a Text Link or
Graphic”I don’t believe you can’t directly import a QuickTime link file because it’s simply a text file that points to the actual QuickTime movie file itself (open the .qtl link file in a text editor and you’ll see.) You’ll need to “Save As” or “Export (which I think requires that QuickTime Pro be registered, in order to unlock those features) from QuickTime Player once the master movie file has been loaded, to save that file out.
Also, as a friendly footnote from one pro to another, I’m sure I don’t need to point out the Beeb’s licensing guidelines:

What’s the link you downloaded it from? I’ll take a look and see if it can be imported or converted.
