Ah yes, I guess I did miss that. My bad.
Then I would maybe try the usual housekeeping tips. Such as checking privileges, disk etc. I personally like to use Onyx for a whole battery of things every once in a while. Or even try reinstalling FCP again. Of course the details pane from the crash would at least point to the general direction of the reason for the crash, if not straight out tell you. Something you might consider checking next time.

Two years?? You realize of course what has happened in that time, right? And on how many levels?
Either way it’s certainly not normal for FCP to be doing this, so it clearly must be either machine or footage related. You’ll simply want to do a complete clean install of your OS and work your way up from there. Unless you have some hardware issues you’re not aware of, I can pretty much guarantee that the issue will disappear as soon as you do.

That’s actually the Paste Attributes command. The actual Paste Effects command is ⌥⌘V. Have you tried that and does it crash also?

Um, sorry, but… why would you still be using 10.0.9? It’s not like updating costs anything.
But yeah, as of 10.1 there is no need to use the Move command from within FCP X anymore, which was in fact essential up until then, to make sure nothing broke (as it has with you). Moving/copying libraries at random in the Finder is completely nonhazardous with FCP >10.1.
I would highly recommend making the jump! And once you do and before you fire it up for the first time, be sure to follow Philips suggestion as described here: https://www.philiphodgetts.com/2013/12/upgrade-your-events-and-project-to-fcp-x-10-1-libraries-the-better-way/ to save yourself a lot of dragging and head-scratching!! (It’s not that it won’t work without it, go wrong or break anything, it just saves you a lot of time)

There are absolutely no issues with FCP X 10.1.4 and Yosemite that at least *I’ve* heard of. But either way it sounds to me that both of you should, first and foremost, do a complete clean install of your OS, no matter the version. With only the most necessary to start with. Just to be sure it’s not some 3rd party software or hardware that is causing it. Because I for one can’t confirm issues of that kind and nothing described seems terribly out of the ordinary or even resource hungry enough to cause it. An occasional restart of FCP if it’s been running a very long time, sure. But certainly not an entire machine crash/restart!
Worst case (after the clean install)… Apple Care?

Actually, that wouldn’t work either. That is, if you mean editing the existing cross dissolve. Since that is not only one of the few NON-Motion transitions, but that “Ease” parameter isn’t in/from Motion either. That’s an FCP thing. So to answer the question: as of now, no, there’s no way to preset and/or “favorite” a preset, standard transition.
But yes, if I’m misunderstanding Noah, he’s of course right that you could set up your own entirely NEW transition in Motion and edit the opacity curves exactly to your liking and set that as your default in FCP.

The only thing you want to do is read up on the best path/system for upgrading first. I would simply delete everything from the new version (but not any flex anything), then start HERE https://www.philiphodgetts.com/2013/12/upgrade-your-events-and-project-to-fcp-x-10-1-libraries-the-better-way/ then move HERE https://www.rippletraining.com/fcpx-features.html after all is said and done for a full understanding of what’s going on under the hood.
If you do what Philip suggests and also grasp the (new) underlying concept you shouldn’t have any problems at all. It should just take a little while, depending on the amount of events/projects.

Could it be that you’re not using the most current version of FCP? Because if your were, simply consolidating the library and copying that in the Finder to the other computer should be all that you need. There is no separation of events and projects as of 10.1.
