  • Thanks all for your input – Shane, thanks for the nattress suggestion – a lot of the cenes are poorly lit night scenes, so the color smoothing might just be the best option. I think (or hope) everyone here understands the serious limitations of DV – hell, even HDV would have been better – but the content is strong, and was produced by someone with zero technical experience (even the DV is cropped to widescreen rather than shot anamorphically). Yes, DV will always be DV, but anything I can do to minimize the artifacting will be a plus.

    Matt,
I just realized something – I am also running a BlackMagic SD PCI card, which is a video output card. It doesn’t list as a display in my System Profiler, but it DOES show as a third 720×480 screen in my System Preferences. So I am running 3 displays, with one driven off of its own card.

You could drag the out point of the scene (the red marker at the top of the timeline) so that the rendered movie is only a couple of frames long, render it as a pict or targa sequence, and only import the first image…. that might work.

    Matt,
I don’t know if any of this info will help, but my AE version is 7.0.1.13, and I’m using QuickTime 7.1.3. Are there any other helper apps that we can check version numbers on to help nail this down for you? Another small thing, as I mentioned in my first post, AE doesn’t actually freeze, but the PA panes don’t appear to load. It doesn’t just look like a screen refresh problem, as the button hotspots (i.e. the cancel button) aren’t active either (hence the apparant freeze – there isn’t a way to get out of the screen). BUT, if you leave the AE application and return (not quit, but tab to another app, and return to AE), the screen draws, and everything works.

(I’m restating, ’cause I’m not sure I was clear in my first post)

Sorry, I’m on 10.4.8. I am using the current version (downloaded & purchased it last night, as a matter of fact). I’ve been using invigorator pro for some time now, but I really like the preview and render speed of the standalone.

    BTW, I love the product!

January 16, 2007 at 8:59 pm in reply to: Matt, having problem running ProAnimator 4.1.0

    Matt,
I’m also having the same problem – my config is:

    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2.3 GHz
    ATI Radeon 9600
    And I’m running 2 20″ cinema displays.

I’ve also tried trashing my prefs, but to no avail.

Also, I still have Invigorator Pro installed – could that be causing a conflict?

I’d be grateful for any help, since I’m trying to use ProAnimator to create a library of graphics to bring into different AE projects.

    TIA,
    Robin

Ouch, not soon enough. I’m starting to get the sick feeling that we’re going to have to wait till NAB…

  • Would FCP still see the field dominance if that was the case?
