Not an editor but had the same issue come up when I started sending 50 Mbps files from PMW500.. everyone is used to the BPAV folders from XDCAM EX but on one could deal with the 50 Mbps files in FCP.
The L +T doesnt seem to work for UDF folders ..

Answer seems to be XDCAM browser.. set pref to FCP7.. see the clips in Explorer window.. select all. right click and import to FCP.. also read recently better to start XDCAM Browser from FCP.. otherwise its in standalone mode, not plugin mode..

Now with the PMW200 being used I guess alot more than the 500.. Im sure this problem will come up more with FCP .. ?

  • Hi Ian

What is the process with XDCAM browser .. to get XDCAM 422 UDF MXF files to re wrap to .mov files..

Without FCP in the system.. just to put them onto an ext HDD.. can that be done

    Thanks

I think you really have to learn how to use the camera .. esp out of full auto mode.. thats always going to give you problems somewhere during a days shoot..

The best way would to get someone who knows the camera to spend a few hours with you,and your camera just to learn whats going on.. its not rocket science but so much easier to actually have the camera infront of you and someone to show you .. another camera op or a rental house..?

    Good luck

    Re the original post..

But then by this logic.. oh heres a boring corp shoot interview with head of sales.. just bang a camera light on him to suit the content..
Why not have a nice soft 3/4 light and some modeling shadow.. I think its the scourge of all our lives having inexperienced dirs and producers complaining about shadows in interviews because they have only seen bad lighting in their careers and never seen a Rembrandt painting.. ..But I would agree with getting rid of the cheesy rim light or the 5 light interview set up.. !!

If its going to be boring at least it can look good.. not unlike a lot of feature films.. and thats the camera persons job anyway.. however much directors want to move the keylight over the lens.. 🙂
