Set to the half setting with the shutter switch on the front on the camera .At 24p this will give you 1/48 = 172.8.This is a great feature on the HDX900,you dont have to work it out in your head !
I dont think the HDX900 displays shutter as angles only fractions of seconds,anytime I,ve used it anyway but not 100% sure.?? even in film mode.

Ok thanks.So you dont even have to change tapes? obviously you shot 720p to match your A camera.Had you been cutting footage in with HDCAM would you have shot 1080i for the non slomo material or stuck with 720p?

Just out of interest do you usually shoot with one of the film gamma,s or just the HD setting for general doco work.

No I didnt know that.. interesting so its a different process to get to slomo effect.

Someone on this forum mentioned some software in post that could double up the 60p to 120p.

Thanks,yes I heard its not officail,but others have posted here thats it works fine,same as varicam 60p.And yes thanks for the tip separate tape,also has been mentioned in the past.
I wonder why its not officially recognised ?When ever I,ve used the varicam for slo mo I,ve always shot at the max ie 60p,so I,d much rather do this with the HDX900,which is great,rather than the bigger varicam.

Maybe your key light is too hard? unless its a specific effect you want.You mention Tota,s,with a XS Chimera the otherwise not so fantastic Tota(dont get me wrong Iam a fan) with a soft egg crate,to control spill off the screen ,becomes a very nice light for the money.
With these nice soft lights you dont need a fill at all,just put it 3/4 angle and a back light from the opposite side.Stills guys have been doing this for ages for portraits.With this soft even light a dark suit should look fine.The problem is a white suit 🙂

Sorry just re read your post… see what you mean.If they make the XDCAM too good they wont sell so many of their top end camera,s… yes I guess that would be the case.

Maybe they should cut out all but the F900R… for high end drama/features etc and get a really good XDCAM model out of the barn.???
