Yes I would contact Abel for sure. But Iam pretty sure they will have to ship the camera to where ever the pana service place is,because its to do with optical stuff. Not sure if the shipping is free, should be! but the change over to metal wheel is,and only takes a day, unless they are busy I guess..

I dont think its an official recall,as the pana guy said its so far been a very small percentage of camera,s effected.. but they seem to be acknowledging that the plastic wheel/gear is a bit sub standard and will replace with the metal ones, for free, they have been using since August 08.. not sure of that date 100%.

My guess is ofcourse it depends on the amount of use the camera gets and if the filter wheel is snapped around or not.. ?? but seems a good idea to change it anyway if your camera is going in for a service..

    Hi Chris

Thanks for your post.So you shoot at .55 as your standard setting pretty much? I have the HDX900 but I believe the block/chip is the same as the Varicam?

    Thanks again

My BT900A has only Varicam or others setting.. as i ues the HDX900 I leave it on Varicam.

Just wondering out loud.. does anyone set Gamma to say .55 and leave it there.. as opposed to .45 factory setting.I know it can all be done in post, but it does seem to look better?

    Thanks

    Hi John

Ok thanks again for the tip.I pretty much shoot only on the HD setting on the 900.Would you still recommend setting monitor to filmlike setting?

    Thanks again for your time.

    Hi John

Thanks for your response.. very interesting.. I have BT 900A monitor.. but yes thanks for the heads up.. I,ll keep it to 0.6 from now on…

I have the (black level) set to +006.. I believe its the BBC settings.. but putting it way down into the minus doesnt seem to have much effect on the monitor?

    Thanks again

  • Yes splitting the varicam seems to be a mistake.I have the HDX900 now and think its a great camera and hope to get a few more yrs from it.
But as it stands now I would get the PDW800.. rather than P2.. as my work is mostly doc,s in the field, long hours, old hotels sometimes with bad/unreliable wiring etc.. seldom a cam assist.. so P2 I think just isnt going to work for me.. where as the 800 ..90 mins dual layer DVD is great for this type of work.
