I’m looking for pixel-for-pixel and genuine color accuracy, so sounds like the cinema display with the multibridge will rock my world. Just Hurry Up!!!!!

Makes sense, but one more thing:

I’ve just done a project shot on HDV but finishing on mpeg2 4:3 format.

This involved a lot of contortionism at the end cropping the frame and rendering out in a different format, blah blah

Now, question is, could I take the component out of the Z1 plug it into the multibridge and caputure into FCP as say… 10-bit uncompressed, or photo-jpeg, or whatever. Will the multibridge do the conversion for me?

Or do I need to capture in as HDV and then render out as 10-bit or whatever I want it as for finishing?

    Hope this makes sense.

I’m just trying to make sure that the Multibridge is the piece of kit I really need.

As I thought Alex, the internal Raid will work, but your processor is too slow. you need a faster machine.

In terms of hard drive speed with a raid of two internal ata drives no problem! I use the same set up for 10-bit uncompressed and it’s fine.

I’m worried about the speed of your processor. Sounds mighty slow to me.

I have an old silver front G4 with an internal raid ata setup. It works fine for 10-bit with a Decklink card.

You need to buy a longer ata wire and replace the one inside your mac.

install 4 ata drives you can put a couple where your DVD drive was and two in the spare slots in your G4.

Then just format them as a raid drive. This will give you enough bandwidth

But seriously consider upgrading your mac, that’s a very old model you’re using.

Whatever you do don’t use the Apple intermediate codec. it stinks.

I’m cutting HDV right now. If you’re sticking with HDV all the way through don’t worry too much about it. Just capture in as HDV (using the HDV native codec) cut on HDV and then output back via firewire. Keep it all in the family.

I’m doing exactly the same thing.

I’ve got a couple of Blackmagic things and can say without hesisitation that its worth waiting for.

Blackmagic are at the cutting edge of the game, they are really great guys who will go the extra mile to help you out wherever you are in the world. They produce updates to keep up with new operating systems/ updated software faster than just about anyone else, and their support is excellent.

What else do you need from your gear?
