The G-RAIDs are 2 hard drives striped together as RAID 0. So that is faster than a single internal drive of your Mac.
Just be sure you backup whatever you put on the G-RAID. We have a bunch here at my work and they seem reliable, but you can’t be too careful with RAID 0 set ups

Are you trying to burn your DVD for TV or computer viewing?
If it’s for TV viewing, are you judging the quality of your image on a TV or a computer screen. It will not look crisp on a computer screen, especially if you play the DVD in full screen.
If you want to use it for computer viewing only, you can burn H.264 files to a DVD in DVDSP. Use Compressor to encode the file. You can encode to an HD resolution if you’d like. Then bring that file into DVDSP and author as you would with MPEG files, although I think you’ll have to change some settings in DVDSP Preferences. Have a quick look at the manual.
The downside to authoring H.264 to a DVD is that it will only play on computer that support that codec. It should work in a Mac, I’ve done it before. Not sure about PCs though. The benefit is that the image looks amazing.

The impression that I’ve gotten from others on the COW is that HQ is for sources originating in 10-bit and/or 2k or larger.

This is a really good book you suggested. It just came in yesterday. The name of the book was a bit misleading though…not that I’m disappointed. I just thought it would compare AE and Motion and tell you how to do less obvious tricks in Motion. Great book for sure.

Ohh ok.
Bring it into FCP and make it look right. Then go to File > Export > Quicktime Movie and export a self contained movie with current settings. Then work from that new file – bring it into FCP and Send to Motion or bring it directly into Motion first, whichever you prefer

I’m confused. How did they shoot in 16:9, but give you video that is 640X480. Is it letter boxed

Yup I have changed it to 1. It’s not quite as sharp as using an image from Photoshop still, but it has actually grown on me. I like it a bit soft. It goes with the wispy feel of it.
Another thing I didn’t like about this method (that I forgot to mention) is that it was hard to get the line to come to a nice point. The dabs would break apart at the end if you tried to make the width of the stroke too thin. But i figured out a nice solution to that…if you’re interested.
Instead of using the Write On behavior or animating the “Last Point Offset” value from 0 to 100, I animated the Last Point Offset from 0 to 86. It makes a nice pointy tip since it cuts off the garbage at the end.

ahh, i actually already discovered that technique that he describes in that tutorial. I just wasn’t feeling it because doesn’t allows for a crisp edge. Using the airbrush mode creates a soft edge.

I have already checked out the built in flora options in Motion, but I don’t really like them.
I will check out the tutorials you linked to. If I have to I’ll buy the Evolution product to save time.
