Yes, I would like to use File Maker Pro since it seemed so practical at my last job, but I think my boss wanted a quick solution for now until we find some time to set up a huge data base with File Maker. I’ll check out CD finder.

I’m not sure if this will solve the problem, but you should always use audio files that are 16-bit 48KHz .aif files in FCP. Not MP3 files.

Hmm…just a hunch, but are you sure the footage is actually 23.98 and not 23.98 with a pull-down pattern, which is actually 29.97?

That’s strange that the DVCPro HD files converted from H.264 cause your computer to crash. The only thing I can think of that MIGHT confuse your computer is transcoding to DVCPro HD at 1280X720 instead of 960X720 with the correct pixel aspect ratio.

Anyway, whenever I transcode Long GOP video, such as H.264, to something editable, I convert to ProRes 422. Then I’d work in a ProRes 422 timeline. No need to convert your DVCProHD footage to ProRes though.

Is there a reason why you are shooting two different frame rates – 30fps (btw, is it progressive or interlaced) and 50i? Make it easy on yourself and shoot the same frame rate and resolution with both cameras.

If you were referring to the De-interlace filter in FCP, NEVER use that. It just tosses out one of the fields.

Your FCP > Compressor > DVDSP idea is correct though.

But like I said, shoot the same frame rate and resolution on both cameras.

I don’t believe FCP is capable of outputting MPEG. Your best option is Compressor. Do you know how to do this?

Simply create a new sequence with the proper settings.

Copy paste the clips from the incorrect sequence into the new correctly set up sequence.

The clips might not fit properly at first. Double click one clip in the sequence to open it in the Viewer window. You made need to adjust the Scale and Distort perimeters. Scale should be 100 and aspect ratio in the Distort section should be 33.33 (or maybe it’s -33.33)

Once you fix one clip, highlight it in the timeline, right click, copy. Highlight the rest of the clips in the timeline, right click, Paste Attribute. Be sure to select scale and Distort. Then everything should fit nicely.

Export your Quicktime Movie. Author in DVDSP.
