In case anyone else is interested, here’s the response someone offered on another forum:
“Double clicking an item in the Project Panel simply opens it in the Source Monitor for preview. Same as when you match frame (F) a clip from the timeline. By contrast, double clicking an item in a timeline opens it in the Source Monitor and creates a dynamic link to the timeline – if you now change In/Out points in the Source Monitor, they will update in the timeline. The frame your playhead was over when you double clicked on the clip will be the frame the clip starts from when it’s in the Source Monitor (if your playhead wasn’t over the clip at the time then the start frame will be the one you double clicked on).”

That makes sense–I’ll have explore when I check in to the project. I think I’ve been double clicking without the playhead positioned on the clip in the timeline. So I’ve been getting the entire “master clip” and not the edited portion. Also sounds like I need to do the trimming I want on the timeline, since changing Ins/Outs in the Source Monitor will redefine the subclip, not just edit the timeline instance.

I was last using FCP7 on Mountain Lion, OS 10.8.5, before I made the fatal switch to Premiere. It worked fine for me and colleagues under that OS. Sometimes it’s necessary to keep a machine running under an earlier OS if you want to use an earlier software.

I did find the current configuration guide but curiously, it didn’t mention Mac OS version.
Thanks for the ref to the 2013 version . . . I’m leary of trying to work with software that is so difficult to learn about

Also interested to hear that “projects are somewhat incompatible between releases” since I typically work for a few years on a project and am already challenged by Adobe CC changing versions faster than I produce projects. You would have to do some deep searching to find that Pr CC versions are not backward-compatible and are specific to Mac OS versions — I only know this by following all the Pr CC discussions regularly, and trying a newer version than I’m actually using.

Not sure I completely follow your work sequence, but here’s a tip I collected some time ago from Derek Lieu that might help:

6. Deselect-All (Shortcut)
Right now you’re probably saying: “Come on, is it THAT BIG A DEAL to deselect something by clicking the mouse?” Yes, when you
consider how often you’re selecting things. If you have to go to your mouse and click off the screen to deselect stuff every single time,
then having a shortcut will save time. This one is so second nature to me I almost forgot to include it.
My Setting – (Cmd-D)
Default Setting – (Shift-Cmd-A)
Final Cut Pro 7 – Same
Final Cut Pro X – Same
Avid Media Composer – Not really applicable because Avid uses in/out points for all it selection based functions. There is a
shortcut for “Deselect All Tracks” though.

For 3: 3: Undocked frames and moved them around leaving a gap on one screen. Moved the Title frame with all its panels into the gap.

BTW these are MOS clips with no link to audio. In fact I can’t see a menu option to unsync them.

Can’t help you troubleshoot, but just confirming that I’ve captured MiniDV files from a little Panasonic camera to CC 2014.

Remember, too, Premiere apps are not backwards-compatible. If you do any work in CC you won’t be able to take it back to CS6.
