Thanks, Neil. “Older” as March or April of this calendar year is helpful clarity.

Hi Neil, How old is old? You mentioned a 2021 project and 2022 PrP version. I’m trying to glean info about old projects and old prp versions. The updates are a constant issue.

    Thanks,

    Robert

“Get with it” posts are not wrong but it’s an admireable resistance to the relentless futurism of capital to try to use old tools that work well despite marketing pressure. Unfortunately, it can become increasingly difficult. Used to be we cut film with scissors, then we had splicing blocks that worked for decades. I heard CS6 was a pretty good program — wish I had bought it. Adobe keeps “updating” PP but can’t seem to get it to work right or consistently.

Jim suggests Pr 14.9 (2020)works better if you can download and install separately.

Thanks so much, Jim. What you say makes perfect sense. And thanks for the tip about version 2020 / 14.9. I tried using BM DV but stopped by weird problems and no support.

Hey, Jim, why do you stay on Pr with all that stupid corruption? Clients or things you like? I’m curious as an occasional user. I never know which version of the software to use.

    Hi Jeff,

You have a deck, you have Firewire, I think there could be software issues. The last version of Pr I used to ingest from mini-DV was Pr 2014. The ingested digital files are still good. Current Pr versions may not do this. I wonder if there is other software that will . . .

Thanks, Paul. Good luck finding a solution. I wonder if your report is an indirect suggestion that we may want to stick with the 2019 version as long as possible.

Thanks, Oliver. Coincidentally, I found the Dropbox app interfered with a wireless printer. Restarted the computer, quit Dropbox, and was able to print.

  • What a great, thorough response, Bob. We are not even working with automobiles or 16mm film equipment that functioned with regular maintenance for decades. Even software that has no physical embodiment and can run flawlessly forever will fail when it runs up against a new computer operating system. What a system! At least we can keep current systems running for a few years at a time, thought the electronic companies will try to sell us new versions every few months. They change even faster than fashion seasons. Films/videos/shows/programs are as ephemeral as people.
