Older PPro projects crashing, finding culprit
I have been experiencing this issue a lot lately, where PPro crashes or won’t close properly (without me force-quitting), but it only happens when some older projects are open. I’m grateful for any thoughts on solutions, or even what’s causing this. On the culprit, my suspicion is that it may relate to me improperly deleting old versions of applications like Audition, where I didn’t remember to use the ‘uninstall’ choice in my app folder, but just dragged an app to the trash, because I still had 1-2 old versions of apps still in my apps folder long after updates. I didn’t do this with PPro or AFX, my most oft-used apps, but did with Audition and maybe one other Adobe suite app. So my questions: Could that be causing these frequent crashes, with some older projects open, that likely included audio files I’d edited in Audition? (PPro isn’t telling me anything suggesting this is the culprit, this is just a thought I have, partly because the issue’s not happening with new projects I create, only certainly older, heavily edited ones.) Either way, are there any suggestions on potential fixes? I’ve already tried things like resetting my PPro preferences.
I’d be grateful for any feedback here, and either way I certainly won’t make that mistake again.

Just an update here. I just tried to open one of these oft-crashing projects with PPro 21, not 22, and it didn’t crash when I did. So maybe that will be my workaround for the moment. I’m definitely still grateful for any perspective on this issue, which certainly may recur and just to avoid such problems.

Hi Neil, How old is old? You mentioned a 2021 project and 2022 PrP version. I’m trying to glean info about old projects and old prp versions. The updates are a constant issue.

Thanks a lot for your response, Robert. In terms of how old, the two main projects, where I’ve been having this issue, aren’t super old at all, one first created in March 2021 and the other April 2021. That’s great to know the updates are a constant issue. Like I said, I’d had this theory my recent issues might have been related to me thoughtlessly trashing an old Audition and maybe one other suite app not too long ago, so maybe PPro got confused by that somehow. But this could also be related to an update to PPro22 perhaps, since when I just tried to open one of these projects with PPro21 instead, it didn’t crash for the first time in recent memory. Anyway, thanks again, and just let me know if that additional info on the affected projects’ ages helps.
