Latest reports on DLT suggest you have to keep updating both the hardware and software so the advantage may be for operations that need to back up tremendous amounts of data. Not so useful for me with my small data “footprint.” Seems like I might as well keep updating hardware (hard drives) and software and indicate in my will a person/entitity who will keep doing that. A guy who helped set up the Library of Congress suggested buying a life insurance policy and leaving a legacy to an institution who will archive your work. But maybe these are not your concerns.

Maybe I wasn’t clear — I am editing in Premiere and want to export some way to then import in Resolve.
That link you provided was for exporting from FCP and importing in Premiere.
But I like your spirit — I will search Premiere for an export option and “give it a go.”

I have a box from OWC that has Thunderbolt 2 (displayport), 3 USBs, an HDMI, an eithernet, firewire, audio in-out and something else I don’t recognize.

Congrats on doing the download, Ryan. No idea about installation on an external drive. Would it depend on how fast the drive and link are? Most folks (like me) install software on the internal drive and video files on the external. I just thought that the Control Panel software itself is intended to manage some of the separate editing hardware that blackmagic sells. But I don’t use that stuff so someone else would know better. There’s a good recent thread with links in this forum about installation.

I am very ignorant about Resolve but aren’t Control Panels intended for use of external devices? The main DaVinci page on the blackmagic website has fairly clear options for download of various versions of the core software. I downloaded R14 from the support page and R15 from the download page. I wouldn’t download from other sites–I’ve heard warnings about the apple app version.

Hi John,
They say you can download and reinstall Resolve 14 should you need it, at least for now. So I bought into all of Inhofer’s suggestions and it has just worked.
I’m a bit of a backup nut — I’m keeping a Macbook Pro running OS Mountain Lion so I can keep running old software and accessing old files in FCP7 and “old” Premiere etc.
Sometimes movies have lifetimes of decades — hard to manage this in the digital age but was always tricky to manage storage even with celluloid.
I’m looking at using Resolve going forward — hope it doesn’t keep “updating” every half-year like Adobe.
Getting mentally prepared for Apple’s next update that will deprecate most current movie codecs in a post-Mojave 64-bit OS version.

I wonder what are the reported issues since they’re not in this thread on the CCow web site

The H5 nobs are large and easy enough for me for two channels.
