    Hello,
I’m planning to cut loose from the rental/lease system of Premiere when my subscription expires in April, and work with the free DaVinci Resolve, which I’ve tested a bit.
Is there a way to move a project-in-progress and keep editing picture and sound, including titles over picture?
I know it’s not advisable but I’m curious.
I already moved this project once from FCP into Premiere, with some glitches, including that the two separate tracks for a stereo mic came in as 2 tracks and I can’t combine them into one stereo in Premiere.
I’m actually using PR CC13 on an old Mac operating system because I haven’t wanted to keep trying out all the new Premiere versions that come out all the time.
Thanks for any thoughts or tips.
    Robert

Why not just export an XML of your project and do a test import in Resolve?

Scroll down this page to the XML section:

    and give it a go.

    Thanks, John.
Maybe I wasn’t clear — I am editing in Premiere and want to export some way to then import in Resolve.
That link you provided was for exporting from FCP and importing in Premiere.
But I like your spirit — I will search Premiere for an export option and “give it a go.”
    Best,

Robert, John’s advice is correct. It’s called a FCP xml but in reality it’s just an xml file that can easily be read by any other NLE and it’s the easiest way to move from one NLE to another mid-project.

However, keep in mind that any monetary savings that you’ll gain by switching to Resolve will probably be negated by the learning curve of the new NLE. You might want to at least finish your current project in Premiere and then learn Resolve before you make the switch.

    Robert,
Did your switch midproject to Resolve work? I’m thinking of doing the same.

    Hey Kevin,
Well, I’ve spent days and hours recovering most of a project from an old version of PrP on an old MBP. Today I’ve been able to export media and import into Resolve, unable to export aaf file, able to export an .xml file and import to Resolve. What doesn’t translate are lots of titles and subtitles from PrP. Do I dare try to work in PrP 2019 for a bit longer? Or should I purchase Avid?
    Best,
    Robert

You kinda want from Resolve Free to Avid in your post.
If you are starting fresh then give both a try after.
It’s futile to go mid on any project unless its all clips and no external resources.

Love the ghosts of the Cow ????

Sorry for posting on an old post.

To make this relevant, where did you end up after all this?

    Eric,
Here’s the latest. Some of my recovered PrP file is out of order and referencing the wrong media so I have to recut part. I worked out how to recreate the montage better.

I will probably continue in PrP for the coming next version because my XML export to Resolve 15 failed to export the titles and subtitles and I’m not as familiar with Resolve to recut and recreate.

PrP 2019 is crashing occasionally and I have to eject hard drives and restart everything — can’t use Avid on this Cataline OS yet but will use Resolve for my next project.

    I think/hope that’s my final report.
    Cheers,
    Robert

[Robert Withers] ” can’t use Avid on this Cataline OS yet “

I just got word of a new version of Avid that works on Catalina.

I am tempted to test but currently too busy.

I have never bothered with titles from Premiere/FCPX to Resolve using XML.
I usually clean up all oddities like Compound Clips, titles, and even LUTs before doing that.
I guess that means I don’t use Resolve for anything other than Color and project conversion.
