Thanks Shane, I’ll look into it. Not sure what the problem is exactly but after about 5 retrys, the clip finally transferred into Final Cut, much to my surprise. Might be some other issue affecting this, or it could be some compatibility issue btwn FCP 7, Snow Leopard, and this camera or AVCHD.

August 25, 2009 at 10:39 pm in reply to: Flip4Mac giving crazy blue video in WindowsOK, it looks like it is some incompatibility issue with my new PC. I tried viewing the file on 2 other PC’s and it worked fine. Thanks for reading and posting suggestions.
Appreciative as always,

Thanks for keeping up with this Stace, considering this post has moved so far down the line!
I just downloaded the latest version of F4M the other day, so that might not be it.
Delivery for this small project is today, so i asked the client to bring his Windows laptop, which I will load the project on directly. There is a chance it will work on his machine and if so, then my PC or something on it is the culprit.
Very frustrating this, so i will post if I find the answer.

August 18, 2009 at 10:09 pm in reply to: Flip4Mac giving crazy blue video in WindowsThanks Stace. As i said the material was Native Sony EX 720P 60 edited in a native timeline.
Nothing to render- it is all native and video only- no graphics, fonts, or overlays.
And, it will play fine on the same PC with VLC media player, which i uninstalled thinking that in some way was corrupting the file’s ability to play properly in Media Player.

I agree, these improvements should have been a free download, or at best only a few bucks, not the current sticker price. If not for the Blu Ray export option I’m not sure I would get it either.

On the rare occasions I’ve had to do it, MPEG Streamclip works very well, and it’s free.

So, if the WMV’s I am creating max out at 30 seconds even though the video I am converting is 4 minutes, that means I don’t have a full version of Flip4Mac?
I was certain I purchased the version I have. How do I tell? Short of searching my credit card statements, is the fact the WMV’s are maxing out at 30x proof enough I have a trial version?
I do all these purchases over the ‘net usually, and I did a big buy in January. Although I have Flip4Mac on my MacPro, I don’t know if it’s trial or purchased.

Are you saying no clip larger than 4GB? Or 4BG is all you can ever write back to the card? I thought that was part of the Sony write-back software, to be able to bridge those 4GB barriers, and give you a seemless clip.
I have filled cards before, never with this much hassle. Of course the “Sony XDCAM HD & EX Workflows” manual had nothing- about a half a page on exporting from Final Cut.
The cards, I should have said, are the Sony SXS cards, 16GB. I reformatted the card I am using to see if that made a difference- It didn’t. Nor did a re-start. Still working on it…

Nik, I have been very impressed with the video, not so much with the audio capabilities of the EX-1.
Maybe my opinion will change after I send the camera in for the firmware fix.

What I think is weird is the “chirping” I have been getting on my wild sound audio while using a Sony ECM 678 on my EX-1. It occurs mostly during windy situations, as it seems almost like it’s some sort of overdrive condition, the audio meter is well within range while recording. It is not audible in my headphones while recording but certainly is in the suite.
I read about something vaguely similar in a firmware update, which I still have not done. I don’t know if that will fix the problem.
Anyone experience anything similar?
Other than that I love the mic, although it is a bit pricey. I used to use a 674 on a Panasonic DVC-Pro AJD 700, and before that on an old betacam, both with tremendous results. I think for the price the 674 is a mic that can provide great sound and good service. More-over, it is very rugged- I used to shoot news, and the ENG world can test the toughest of gear. The 674 never failed me.
Only trouble is the length- which is why I chose the 678- matches the camera dimensions a bit better.
Hope this helps!
