  • [Nathan Gross] “He simply copies the trimmed clips from Premiere and pastes them into a new project/comp in AE.”

You do realize you can use Dynamic Link instead of this?

[Todd Kopriva] “I strongly recommend watching the video tutorials here before trying to use the Warp Stabilizer for serious work. It’s not exactly an intuitive feature.”

    Hey Todd and Folks,

I have watched some of the videos and will try some things but I really need to get this finished and move on to an old project that I will actually make a little money on.

None of the stuff I have seen so far really address the rolling shutter artifacts that I am getting except to say use enhanced which does not help for my footage. Anything you can point me to that will deal with what we are seeing in this clip?

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Ok Folks,

I put a copy of the original clip at:

    https://www.audiocrazies.com/storage/jrmediumtoclosetrimmed.mov

It is trimmed to approximately the frames I am using in Premiere/AE.

I also made a Blu-Ray from my current rough edit and the anomaly is noticeable on all of the medium shots which I stabilized in AE. Most distressing.

I will try to follow some of Todd’s links/suggestions tonight. Still looking on a tutorial for manually tracking this.

    Thanks,
    Robert
PS: I can provide a ProRes version if someone would like.

So first of all, as you may know, MP2 is a heavily compressed Long GOP codec so that would not be many folks first choice.

Not sure on Windows if you have a good intraframe codec. In any case, convert the audio to uncompressed PCM and bring that into Premiere and mate that with the video. I am betting that Premiere is not liking the version of whatever audio codec your mp2 is using.

    Good Luck,

On a Mac, wav would be unusual. If you open it in Quicktime the Inspector window should tell you what the codec is. Premiere should have no problem unless it is a really odd codec, but some editors do not like certain codecs they pretend to support. For instance, FCP does not like MP3 as I recall. I would convert the wav(s) to pcm(uncompressed) aiff.

    Good Luck,

[Michael Heckman] “Love my Macs, but it’s a relief to know that my next workstation CAN be a PC powerhouse that I can custom configure. It probably will come to that if Apple decides not to upgrade the Mac Pro. Or discontinue it in order to push all of those new Final Cut X users onto iMacs.”

Hoping not to have to go back to Windows for editing. I used to build my own but having to keep up with the right bios, mboard chipset, etc no longer sounds like fun. Lots of other heavy duty stuff needs MacPro to shine. Resolve, Smoke, and others can really use the horsepower. I really can’t see them discontinuing the MacPro anytime soon.

As for FCPX, even if they add back the multicam, etc., isn’t the real problem for you pro folks the new terminology? Events not bins, different style timeline, and Projects are not what we are used to. As you know, some of these, if not many, are carryovers from the analog world and have been used for a long time. My new slogan is “Sometimes new is just new, not better.”

I have an iPhone and iPad so I like new when really serves a purpose.

    Y’all be cool,
    Robert
PS: The roundtripping in Premiere is nice also for us notalentwannabes. I need all the workflow help I can get but not of the style of FCPX.

[Todd Kopriva] “If you think that the Warp Stabilizer is introducing excess warping, then just switch to a different Method setting.”

Yeah, I am not sure I tried any of the others on the clip in question.

[Todd Kopriva] “I strongly recommend watching the video tutorials here before trying to use the Warp Stabilizer for serious work. It’s not exactly an intuitive feature.”

Good point. I have looked at some of that, but will explore it further.

    Thanks Todd,

[Jon Barrie] “I am wondering if it is at all possible to allow us access to a small portion of your shot to see if any of us can get a better result…”

I would be very interested and grateful for you to teach us via my clip. I will upload it to one one of my sites and post a link.

I managed to knock over the Lacie the clips were on so I am in the process of moving them to a CalDigit raid 1 drive connected to my notebook from another location.

    Thanks,
    Robert

Curious about all the folks using AVI. Why not an industry standard container or wmv?

I have read and heard a lot of stories about production companies and I have never heard any of them say they use AVI. Even those on Windows are using other containers. BTW, I worked at Microsoft in support around the time Video For Windows was developed. As I recall there was some Intel codec that was popular and wrapped in an AVI.

    Thanks,
