FCPX to PPro
Posted by Steve Brame on August 12, 2011 at 7:40 pmIs it just me, or does it seem like since the Vegas SuperMeet that Adobe may have made a few million on CS5.5 sales alone?
Just sayin…

August 15, 2011 at 8:01 pmI’m not sure what the exact number, but yes, we’ve seen an increase of FCP users to these and other Adobe Premiere Pro forums. We’re happy to accommodate!

August 16, 2011 at 6:33 pmI’m one of the many who downloaded Premiere Pro CS5 shortly after Final Cut X was released. I’ve been an FCP fanboy for 9 years– but realized immediately where Apple was going as soon as I saw Final Cut X. I refuse to use the word “Pro” in the same sentence!
Anyway, my point is: I was able to pick up the Premiere basics in just a few hours, and found the switch intuitive. I find Premiere superior in almost every way (for the work I do), and am beginning to wonder how I got along without it.

August 17, 2011 at 7:22 pmLove my Macs, but it’s a relief to know that my next workstation CAN be a PC powerhouse that I can custom configure. It probably will come to that if Apple decides not to upgrade the Mac Pro. Or discontinue it in order to push all of those new Final Cut X users onto iMacs.

Hoping not to have to go back to Windows for editing. I used to build my own but having to keep up with the right bios, mboard chipset, etc no longer sounds like fun. Lots of other heavy duty stuff needs MacPro to shine. Resolve, Smoke, and others can really use the horsepower. I really can’t see them discontinuing the MacPro anytime soon.
As for FCPX, even if they add back the multicam, etc., isn’t the real problem for you pro folks the new terminology? Events not bins, different style timeline, and Projects are not what we are used to. As you know, some of these, if not many, are carryovers from the analog world and have been used for a long time. My new slogan is “Sometimes new is just new, not better.”
I have an iPhone and iPad so I like new when really serves a purpose.
Y’all be cool,
Robert
PS: The roundtripping in Premiere is nice also for us notalentwannabes. I need all the workflow help I can get but not of the style of FCPX. -

August 20, 2011 at 12:34 pmAfter years of getting RFP’s in that listed as a requirement that the editing platform be FCP ( because it’s the only truly ‘professional’ platform, I’m thrilled.
