PAL huh? Not much experience the format myself…

If you’ve tried every combo of the settings in the Intensity and Media express software, that only leaves your consoles.. but it looks like you’ve made sure they’re running at 720p as well.

If you’re having any doubts about the Intensity card, I can say from experience that if the card were to go bad, you would be unable to change any settings through the Intensity Control Panel – every option would appear grayed out. So the fact that you are able to manipulate settings tells me everything is a-okay with the hardware.

What OS are you running? Have you tried using other video programs for capture – such as Adobe Premier?

I guess you’re using component? Splitter?

K – I knew I was gonna have to upgrade my CPU at some point… I will have to see if Quads have come down in price since I put together my latest pc. Hopefully even a minimal increase in CPU power will help me here, as I am really only dealing with 4 minute videos (edited down from MAYBE 20 minutes of total stored footage.) I have 2 ATI Radeon X1950 Pros, but I have only been running one while editing on 2 screens. Unfortunately the crossfire technology reduces the output to a single monitor… I may have to give Crossfire a shot – I know there are setting within PP for graphic acceleration, but like you, I’m not really sure if this will help.

Well I found a solution – I was able to “select all” of the items in my sequence and copy them (with the project files automatically selected). I then simply created a new project with the HD settings I desired, and pasted the elements into the new sequence. I really didn’t think this would work – but everything imported without a hitch! I then resized every clip of video to fit the new 16:9 ratio and output to mpeg2 with much better quality than the re compressing an avi.

I have recently upgraded my projection system in my simulation rides to HD and would like to use a few of my older videos with the new equipment. I tried exporting the original 4:3 as an uncompressed avi and then importing it into a new 16:9 project to output as an mpeg2, but there was noticeable loss of quality.

I’m capturing the HD with a Blackmagic Intensity Pro via HDMI.

I’m having a similar problem with my 720p60 HD movies.. each only about 4 minutes long. Premier seems stable – no crashing or locking up – but during playback, it freezes at every video transition effect. I just chalked this up to my pc not being powerful enough to handle the fx AND the HD, but if anyone has any advice on setting up scratch disks, it would help this greenhorn out quite a bit. I’ve been capturing and storing the HD footage on my 4x80gb 7200rpm SATA RAID0, which is also what Adobe apparently set up as my scratch disk, as I don’t remember making any changes to PP2 after installing the new array. I figured my pc could at least handle shorter movies, but who knows…

    Vista Ultimate
Foxconn 975X7AB Motherboard in Antec 900 gaming case
    Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 CPU @ 1.86Ghz
    2GB G-Skill 3200 SDRAM
    2x Radeon x1950 Crossfire GPU
    400GB primary HDD
    320GB SATA RAID 0 @ 7200rpm

  • Hate to hear you’re having trouble, but I’ve been running PP2 on Vista Home Premium and Ultimate for a few months now without any issues. Wish I could give some advice, but I just really wanted to let you know its not Vista – a solid system, imo, that has been taking alot flack…

Could your screen tearing be caused by the difference between the 59.94fps recording mode and the 60fps the Xbox outputs? I’m still unclear as to the difference in each frequency because I’ve read that 60Hz is technically 59.94Hz, like a 2×4 piece of lumber is actually about 1.5×3.5″. I’m no tech, just going off of what I’ve read on other forums…

Oooh, I’m not sure if I can help with this. I set my Xbox to 720p, to avoid any issues that may arise with interlacing, so maybe it will help you too. I don’t remember trying 1080i… I’ll have to see what happens. I’m not sure what’s up with the sound. I guess you’re trying to capture in HD? Have you selected to save the capture on your disk array and is it fast enough?
